I'll just replace the raptor with another WD 640 gb for now and get another one in the future. I tried finding that one momentus on newegg but couldn't find it =P

now for the more important question... what games are you kids playin nowadays? I havn't really invested in computer games for quite a while due to consoles being more available while in the navy

You might want to get a triple-channel memory kit, no use in letting that third memory channel go to waste.

Seriously copy paste "Seagate Momentus XT" into the newegg search
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...20Momentus%20XT

BLE plays "Team Fortress 2, Call of Duty 4, Counter-Strike: Source, Cube Soccer, Savage 2, Left 4 Dead, Track Mania Nations, Flat Out 2, Tee Worlds," and Bad Company 2. People have also been playing a bit or GTA 4, and Star Craft 2.

If you want a fast hard drive don't want to pay the high dollar per GB of SSD, check out the new Seagate Momentus XT. It's a hybrid SSD/Hard Drive that easily matches or outperforms the raptors, and comes in sizes up to 500GB for about $120.

*edit* also, they're 2.5" drives, so you may need to find a physical 2.5" to 3.5" adapter to mount it in that case.

*another edit* otherwise, I like all your other choices so far.

I was reading the reviews of the drives on newegg. There seems to be a number of people saying there is a good amount of lag for the drive to access something once the drive spins down.
One other reviewer who didn't have problems said :

I don't think this drive is good for older systems without extra CPU cycles to spare. Reading other reviews, older systems tend to have spin down problems and lags. Newer PCs like mine don't have this problem.

I am wondering what constitutes a 'newer system'; I am thinking of upgrading my own system soon. Any ideas what would make it or break it?

I'm guessing that having the system configured for AHCI might make a difference. AHCI allows more advanced file queuing which I imagine would come into play on a hybrid drive like that. The thing that sold me on the drive the most was this video:

Granted those tests are done by Seagate, but it's based on a wide enough variety of common apps that it seems legit.
