View Full Version : My car's cd player was stolen during the LAN.

It's my own fault, I suppose. I didn't lock the doors which I suppose may as well serve as an engraved invitation to fuckheads to take what they will from my car. What's mine is theirs.
In due accordance with the spirit of the forum (and, of course, there's that whole "hypocritical" thing), I will not display more of my personal feelings on the matter, except to say that those of you who played or watched Soul Calibur 2 during the lan will likely have a fairly good idea of what I think should be done to the person who did this.
I'm not really as pissed off as I sound, or perhaps should be. Granted, I'm pretty friggin pissed, but considering the fact while loading and cleaning up, I had my computer and the BLE servers in my car with the doors locked, I should be happy to have only lost a $200 cd player.
I think everyone here deserves to know that it apparently is not safe to leave your doors unlocked for any period of time in the parking lot. In the mean time, I'll hope everyone else had the good sense to lock their car doors and I also want to open the floor to thoughts.
It was fairly unanimous that the facility was fantastic. Does this news change your opinion of the location at all? I'm not from Bellingham, perhaps everyone else knew that only a dumbass would leave their car unlocked at that particular location? Think it's just extreme bad luck?
It's pretty important for us to know how you feel about this, considering we were expecting to use the same location next time, so let us know.

Well, Bellingham definetly ising the place to be leaving you car door unlocked, especially with a $200 cd player in it.
And mabye if we all chipped in $10 we could help Dave buy a new cd player?

Man that sucks so bad Dave! Lame lame lame lame lamers! :( wtf carhack cdplayerthiefbot  :( I'm totally bummed to hear this. :(
You are aware that I am relatively new to Bellingham, but I have never known that area to be bad in that way. With the exception of Walmart, that area seems to attract the little more well to do in the city, and those type of areas always seem to be a little more crime free than others...at least, that seems pretty consistent wherever I've lived in the country. Sure, there are always those punks who try to prey on those types of areas, but I wouldn't really have expected that at that place.
I've always been the type that usually locks his doors if I'm not at my house or if I'm going to be leaving the car alone for a long time. Just a force of habit I guess. I've never been afraid or paranoid of getting anything stolen...just one of those things that someone suggested I do once and so I've done it ever since.
I don't think that it's a bad location, or unsafe or any of that. I guess you'll just have to lock your doors, which I know you're not a fan of cause it denotes less trust, which is something the world needs more of. Hrmmm...sounds like I'm posting this to go in the philosophy forum. ;) Might be a good topic sometime to discuss.
But, you're definitely a positive thinker. Coulda been a lot worse really, you could be out a cd player, a broken window, a few servers, your own computer....man, that would really suck and I think I'd be forced to throw down...on...someone...uh...in SC2, but they'd get the idea from it I'm sure.

The mentally ill. Seriously. Anyone that could do something like that and still be able to live with themselves is completely insane.
I appreciate the offers to do a collection, so to speak, but I couldn't accept that. It's not your fault I didn't lock my car. :slant:

hey, discodave, if it makes you feel any better about losing your cd player, i found something else you lost, a nintendo game cube controller cord! i'll be sure to give it to ender so he can give it to you. :)
also, i'd just like to offer my condolences about your loss. that doesn't exactly seem like a spot where someone would steal stuff (a paking lot in front of a nice office buidling), which makes it suspicious. i guess it's just all those homeless people and mall-rats:mad: near by that make it a maked-spot.
finaly, to speak on the safety of bellingham, i'd just like to say its alot like canada; with not a whole lot of crime (and barely any violent crime), but it gets its share. Compared to Seattle, Atlanata, or Miami (all cities in which i've lived), i feel safer here then i have in any of the above. I think because of the buildings vacinity to the mall, it makes it a very subseptible spot to such a soft crime, but none-the less, should not be over looked for future lan's.
maybe next lan we could have a discodave charity drive.

Yea, it definitely caught me by surprise as well, even though this is actually the third time someone's broken in to my car. The first time they smashed the window in. *mad*
Karma hates me. :grumpy:
But yea, it certainly didn't LOOK like the kind of place I'd expect something like this to happen.
[edit: And the extension cord...woops! Where'd I leave it?]

don't know where you left it, but i found it tangled with all my comp stuff (i was so tired today i don't know remember where i picked up my comp).
i doute you have that bad of karma, it must be your nice get-up, rigged-out car that you pick up all those chicks in that makes people want to steal from it cause they're so jellous, they just see it and go wow; - - its Discodaves sweet ride, must... take, something, e-gat, from... it,
damn those people that covet!
kinda like when the old man was in jersey with a conversion van, and it got stolen.
oh wait, that happened twice (never leave a tv in your car if your in jersey).
oo, and when do i get to make you feel worse when i beat you down at Quake III?
