...why can't you just post the .PSD (assuming you used Photoshop)?
Also, way too late, TBVH. This being a college town, a ton of our prospective LAN-goers are working food service or retail, and they'll need at least two weeks' notice in most cases (and some of them 3-4 weeks').

the delay has all been courtesy of western though. while it was in planning things like when it would be was dependent on them, and then them letting us promote it was dependent on them... they send me an email to say when i can eat, it sucks.
when it was announced it would be the 24th it wasn't set in stone till later, lol.

So, I'll ask again: Why not just post the .PSD? I'm sure you can upload it to the GameFest site, and if not, I'll gladly host it...

You know, I was going to refrain from posting further out of respect, but your post is pretty fucking disrespectful, Kim.
The way to generate good word-of-mouth is by completely opening up communication channels -- that means posting all of your advertising materials to your website, not just for web access, but for download. When you've got an established, large community in place already, this is less important, but when you're trying to make something out of nothing, you need to get word out early and maintain constant contact with your target audience until the event.
In other words, if you do this again, get fliers out earlier (and if WWU says no, convince them otherwise), create a Steam group, create a Facebook group, create a Twitter channel, and try to generate good word-of-mouth. Establish mailing lists and get channels of communication open so you can provide constant updates. Give people incentives to sign up early -- right now, only 32 people are signed up. Out of 200 seats. To people considering coming, that looks bad and will discourage them from attending.
And, FFS, don't get so busy that you can't be bothered to post a flier, and don't get so attached to the flier that you think yours is just too "pretty" to let other people print them; besides, if it doesn't look good on plain white paper, you designed it wrong. Being too busy for someone to upload a flier is a sign that you're too busy to run the event in the first place, seeing as how it doesn't take more than a couple of minutes to upload an image. (Hell, don't upload a .PSD, just upload a .png -- it'll save you a few seconds of upload time, right?)
Honestly, a lot of this seems like a total clusterfuck. If you guys get the incredible turnout you're expecting at-the-door-without-signups, I'll be shocked. I'll be happy, but I'll be shocked.

We have been handing out handouts and fliers for months now, there is a BLE facebook (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=25387643663), twitter can suck my balls, and only god knows why people won't sign up. Frankly if it fails it fails, life happens. We have a mailing list, only a handful of people emailed signed up for it. It's for charity, it's not like we're here trying to rake in cash for BLE, let alone ourselves.
Why do you think that posting a png with a flier on here would change any of that? I don't think I followed your logic at all other then you want it, in which case there are better ways to communicate that. I already had responded that if you, or anyone else, would like some fliers I'd be happy to personally drop off huge stacks of them just to save you the time and money from doing it.
I realize it's not a fair argument as I have a lot more of the information of what has actually occurred up to this point, but remember, just because you haven't seen stuff doesn't mean we haven't been pushing this for a while now.
Anyway, I don't want to argue with you. Lidia is tired for other reasons then BGF, we all do have other lives and responsibilities outside of trying to throw an event this big. Except for Ghrog, that dude can go fuck himself and get to work

I've never seen an organization make it so hard for people to help them advertise for FREE.
Sure yours look pretty. (I guess it does at least. You wont show it.) What if someone prints an ugly flier and gets one person to show up who would not have seen a flier at all. Thats good for charity right? You guys are trying so hard to maintain control. Sometimes the best marketing is that which you have no control over.
I could care less about it. But you guys appear to be going out of your way to irritate people who just want to help. And the reasons given here just suck.

this
People on this forum can only call it like they see it. You guys may have been "pushing this for months," but if everyone is left with the impression that you haven't, then maybe your pushing wasn't very successful? People here aren't trying to bring you down, but give you constructive criticism to improve events in the future, and you basically tell them to fuck off. You should hire better PR. ;)

We are more then happy to let as many other people help. We told people in our first post that anyone was more then welcome to come to the weekly meetings. We have given fliers to every single person who has asked for some (or they will get them soon). You can't come to something and post your two cents less then 2 weeks before an event and call it constructive criticism, I'm sorry, it's not constructive at this point, IMO.
If the failing point is the belief that posting this (http://www.bellinghamlan.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=5285&stc=1) is going to make or break Bellingham GameFest I'm really not sure how to respond. There have been over 700, on top of the 500 we are currently passing out.
I'm all for people doing what they can to help, am I out of my mind for thinking that people would rather be handed a stack of fliers and asked to give some out or say, 'hey, print a bunch of these and hand them out.' Personally I'd rather be handed fliers. But then again, I could be crazy.
I'm not here to defend anything that's been done or said, but again, you all are responding to one post three lines long and not to the multiple offers to have fliers handed to you.

Choices are good.
Was it so hard to say, "Here's the flier, you can print it or we'll print a stack and give them to you"?
It's constructive criticism because we'd like to see things go better next time around (if there is a next time). :)

I have to say I agree because not everyone lives in town and so going to go pick up printed out fliers isn't so much a convenience for those of us that don't live nearby in town.

And no. "if it doesn't look good on plain white paper, you designed it wrong." is total bullshit. Quit pulling shit you no nothing about out of your ass and serving it up as "Fact" seriously man just cuz you overheard some Jr. Professor say it one doesn't make it true.
