View Full Version : Bellingham Gaming Center

First off, I must mention a few things.

Before I ever conceived the idea of BLE I once attended a LAN party at the invite of DiscoDave down in Everett. A small group known as LAN Party Northwest. We have a link to their site on our front page. :)

I had a blast and was instantly hooked on LANs. I began to think about LANs all the time and I went to several of lpnw's. Pretty much every month that I could.

It dawned on me what a cool job it would be to have a permanent set up for LANs and host them all the time. I then thought of the idea of getting all the equipment necessary for a LAN, renting out a space and doing just that. However that idea gave way to a grander idea: a gaming center.

Unbeknowest to me there were already many gaming centers at this time. Though they were mostly in California. I heard about LANwerx in Bellevue shortly after that, and since then there have been several that have gone in from Everrett to Tacoma. However, none have graced this far north - until you cross the border anyways. There are several in greater Vancouver as well.

Come to find out though, that before I knew DiscoDave he started a gaming center in Mt.Vernon. But I'll let him tell that story if he feels like it. He stayed open for a time, but then closed shop.

I also heard of another Bham gaming center called Wildcats at about the time I started BLE. However this center as well closed shop for whatever reason.

I still think that a Gaming Center would do well in Bham and I am still working on realizing one here in town as well. There are other people with the same hope that have recently come to my attention. One of which I just began working with in this common goal. As you know my brother known as Maddeh on this site runs a gaming center in Salt Lake City, Utah and is called Good Game Online Gaming Center. It's not hard to see where we got our color scheme from knowing this. ;) And for those of you who have been with us from the beginning know that our first forums were there, cause, well, we are in effect, a sister organization. My new partner in the Gaming Center pursuit and I wish to bring a copy (or pretty close to) of my brothers shop here to bham. It's a working model that functions great and is doing really well there.

There are others too who are out there trying to get it going, doing the research etc. A couple guys whom many of you met last LAN are trying to do this: Tril and InfinityDXN. They have come up with an online survey about Gaming Centers and shared it with me. I am posting it here so that what I know of the Bellingham Gaming Community will find it and take it. This way those who are seriously working towards this goal will have some answers as to its feasibility and desireability in the area.

I also realize that we do not encompass the whole of the Bellingham Gaming Community - but we should change that. ;) So tell your friends about this site (www.bellinghamlan.com that is) so we can have one gathering place for the good of gaming in Bellingham. :D

Oh, and here, take the survey. ;)

I want to let you all know that no information from this survey will be shared without your express consent in the survey itself. So it's safe to take. :)

w00tar! I hope you guys get this centre (to spell it the canandanananandian way) going! That has always been an idea in the back of my mind too since I heard about Wildcats, and even more so since I heard of Wildcats' demise. Good luck, and you have my support!

Part of the reason I like BLE is because the forums are so active. It makes me look forward to the next LAN and playing with all the guys here on the forums.

Good luck with the gaming center. If you ever need any part time help don't be afraid to ask. I might work real cheap, just so I have more resume material .;)

Having a center like that in B-ham or this general area would be awesome. It would be like...well...a home away from home to coin a phrase. ROFL :D

you can be the village idiot that walks in everday and the crowd claps and you start speaking jibberish and Disque kicks you and you fly back out the door and everyone in the coffee shop laughs then our guest walks in. Hes someone famous like mel gibson but in this his names like Dwyight Johnson a passing health inspector who falls in love with Disques on and off girl friend played by some hot chick and shes a cop. And so Dwyight is all like..."who was that masked man" (cause you wear a mask because of your hidious war wound, or at least thats what you say, later on you take off your mask and I photoshop in brad pitts face). But anyway the crowd is all like laughing after that and so Dwyight like sits down and orders coffee and then all the sudden homeslice who plays the computer tech support who is irish runs out of the back with his shirt on fire and yells "OMG ENDER!!! I GOT A 7GHZ OC OFF THAT BASTAGE!!!!" then runs out the front door with his shirt still on fire. (the crowd laughs again). Then Disque is all like "I'll take care of it" and gives a worn out look to ender and pulls the fire extinguisher off the wall and walks through the wall of smoke into the back. So then like I walk in with my sandwich board on dragging homeslices dead corpse which is burnt and run over a few times and say "hes dead jim" to ender and everyong laughs (cept Dwyight who is all like WTF mate ^^). Then it goes to comercials.

ahh dang it! I read that entire article (enders first post) and then looked at the post date and realized that I had already read it AND done the survey..... A waste of 5 min of my life.

But on topic, i still would really liek to see a gaming center in bellingham. You would get a lot of businuess methinks and i should be a great success.

Sorry, but the smartass asshole is the kid hanging out there every day all day long, who knows everything, calls everyone by their first names, thinking there are best friends. When in reality, we all consider him the resident dullard.

Which reminds me......DULLARD (http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail37.html)

I can do that too. I've got plenty of experience at the LANs doing that!

I haven't heard from Tril or infinity since they came to March LAN. I have no idea what they're doing, but judging by the fact that their site hasn't been updated or added to at all since I first linked it here I'm willing to bet they've either given up or are biding their time...for some strange reason.

As for me, the guy I was working with to build one has sorta...disappeared. Haven't heard from him in a while. But at this point in time I'm really too busy with life to try and see it happen. It'd be nice, and I'd like to see it, but I've got to much going and to worry about. However, I too would like to a Bham GC (and run it too hehe) someday. Here's to hoping!
