First off, I must mention a few things.
Before I ever conceived the idea of BLE I once attended a LAN party at the invite of DiscoDave down in Everett. A small group known as LAN Party Northwest. We have a link to their site on our front page. :)
I had a blast and was instantly hooked on LANs. I began to think about LANs all the time and I went to several of lpnw's. Pretty much every month that I could.
It dawned on me what a cool job it would be to have a permanent set up for LANs and host them all the time. I then thought of the idea of getting all the equipment necessary for a LAN, renting out a space and doing just that. However that idea gave way to a grander idea: a gaming center.
Unbeknowest to me there were already many gaming centers at this time. Though they were mostly in California. I heard about LANwerx in Bellevue shortly after that, and since then there have been several that have gone in from Everrett to Tacoma. However, none have graced this far north - until you cross the border anyways. There are several in greater Vancouver as well.
Come to find out though, that before I knew DiscoDave he started a gaming center in Mt.Vernon. But I'll let him tell that story if he feels like it. He stayed open for a time, but then closed shop.
I also heard of another Bham gaming center called Wildcats at about the time I started BLE. However this center as well closed shop for whatever reason.
I still think that a Gaming Center would do well in Bham and I am still working on realizing one here in town as well. There are other people with the same hope that have recently come to my attention. One of which I just began working with in this common goal. As you know my brother known as Maddeh on this site runs a gaming center in Salt Lake City, Utah and is called Good Game Online Gaming Center. It's not hard to see where we got our color scheme from knowing this. ;) And for those of you who have been with us from the beginning know that our first forums were there, cause, well, we are in effect, a sister organization. My new partner in the Gaming Center pursuit and I wish to bring a copy (or pretty close to) of my brothers shop here to bham. It's a working model that functions great and is doing really well there.
There are others too who are out there trying to get it going, doing the research etc. A couple guys whom many of you met last LAN are trying to do this: Tril and InfinityDXN. They have come up with an online survey about Gaming Centers and shared it with me. I am posting it here so that what I know of the Bellingham Gaming Community will find it and take it. This way those who are seriously working towards this goal will have some answers as to its feasibility and desireability in the area.
I also realize that we do not encompass the whole of the Bellingham Gaming Community - but we should change that. ;) So tell your friends about this site (www.bellinghamlan.com that is) so we can have one gathering place for the good of gaming in Bellingham. :D
Oh, and here, take the survey. ;)
