Next Generation Hardware question

I've only heard bits and pieces...but things like BTX mobos and cases, 64 bit processing etc etc. What I'm wondering is RAM going to take a change in the near future? I'm needing to pick up some RAM and I'm wondering if I can get something now that I won't have to upgrade in a couple years when I do my next complete overhaul...

Yup, DDR-2 will be commonplace by the end of the year.

I was one of the few who spent extra for RamBus when it was supposed to be the next big thing. Look what that got me.

I say just buy what you need now. in a couple years you will want to upgrade again anyway right?

ibm is currently developing a new form of memory that will be as fast as ram and nonvolatile; ie, it's got ddr or ddr2 speeds and can be used in a memory stick... or as your system ram. imagine 0s boot times because you don't need to load anything into memory... it's already there.

this is still in development so don't expect to see it until well after pci express starts becomeing practical.

Sounds nice but hopefully they will make a way to clear everything in memory on shutdown as an option. Imagine all the problems that could no longer be solved by a simple reboot if they didn't.

actually they'd probably just have the reboot clear the mem and restart the pc. I'm guessing at least.
