So the guy that is going to buy it put in a bid of $250(my reserve), and has the option enabled to bid up to $290(what I'm selling to him at). He told me to just end the auction and invoice him $290 through paypal. To me this sounds strange. If something goes wrong, can't he claim that he won the auction at $250 and force me to give him money back, or something like it?

Just play it safe. Always play it safe...

Play by your own rules. Say to him, "I'm not comfortable with that idea. Let's do it this way."

Worse Case Scenario: Someone else swoops in and buys your item for even more than he was willing to pay, and you make an enemy somewhere across the world.

Best Case Scenario: Someone else swoops in and buys your item for even more than he was willing to pay, and you make an enemy somewhere across the world.

lol... yeah, double edged sword. Should I get someone to bid just below the negotiated price, so Ebay automatically ups his bid, then end it?

Just have him wait for the auction to end. Why is he in such a hury for it. by now the auction will end in 3 or 4 days at the most, right? if he gets it for 250 (your reserve) you both should be happy. if he if someone gets it for more, your happy. The best way to make auctions work easy is to just follow the rules. If you do that no one should have any complaints at the end.

I notice on ebay that a lot of bidding doesn't happen until the item is nearing closing time, anyway.

you should never take someone up on a deal like that. That is how the ebay scammers do their thing so that ebay can't nail them. Always wait till the bid ends and always play it safe. :rup:

Ebay can be good to you...I made about $500 a couple years back on it. lol Dave and I sold our LotR Marathon tickets on there for oogles of money compared to what we payed for them! But play it safe, always let the bid time do its thing and never close early.

Not quite following you here. I'm still doing the deal through Ebay. I just ended the auction early with him as the high bidder. So as far as Ebay is concerned, the auction is completely valid, he won the amp, it just closed a little early.

The only reason I did this is because I know the value of the amp. Maybe there's some crackpot out there that's willing to pay more than it's worth, but I'm not in this to make money. I owe my parent's some money, and I made a deal that I'd give them all the money from selling my amp. So no matter how much I get, I won't personally see a penny of it. I'm just glad it's sold.
