Blatantly ripped off of DiscoDave's post in BLE Central. ;)

*****

Everyone reading this is invited. It's at KartTrak Raceway (http://www.karttrakraceway.com/) in Mt. Vernon just southeast of exit 225. Extended directions on the link.

Expect the price to be $20, but it could be less if we get more than 10 people. There will be no food, although I imagine we could swing on by Denny's and chew the fat and talk about how badly I whupped everyone's butt.

If you're under the age of 18, you're parents will need to fill out this waiver (http://www.karttrakraceway.com/printout/minorrel.PDF). They can do that either in advance, or if they drive you to the event, there.

Our hour doesn't actually start until 5:30, but I'd strongly advise everyone to get there early to provide a buffer in case you're late (*kicks Ender*) and also to give some time to fill out the paperwork and such.

This is really going to be a lot of fun, and I hope a lot of people can make it!

it is an indoor track (we're in the Pac NW - nothing can be done outdoors and make money...too short a season :p) but I can say from personal experience, don't knock this one till you try it. Esp with a large group of friends and like minded people. This will be a blast no matter what. :D

Stumanji: While it's technically an indoor track, it's in a huge warehouse. Take an outdoor track, put a roof on it, and that's what this is.

The cars can go upwards of 40mph, which is pretty effin' fast when you're that close to the ground.

But I suppose to have a guilt-free conscience I should point out that this ISN'T for everyone. I'm sure we have patrons who, if they were to come, would not enjoy themselves.

If you don't like finding a fine line between speeding through a gut-twisting curve in the road and spinning out of control, you aren't going to have fun.

If you don't like weaving around people making split second decisions of how close you can get to someone as you try to pass them without slamming into them or a wall, you aren't going to have fun.

This track is intense. It's not for the faint of heart, and that's BEFORE you throw 9 other people on the track.

If this sounds too extreme for you, it probably is. I suggest those of you don't come.

I'm either going to kill myself on some turn or come off that track with a big grin on my face! :D Well both ways I think I'll have the grin, just one will leave later that night as I do homework while the other will stay that way for a lot longer.... :D

say hypothetically someone did try to go around a corner too fast and they spun out... what would the results be? ie broken face, arms, cart.....?

Best case scenerio, you proably slam into a wall giving your neck a nice workout. No real harm done.

Worst case scenerio, there's a bunch of people behind you that don't have time to react and you end up with a multiple car collision. Broken bones would be extremely unlikely, but damage to the carts would be a definite possibility.

There's seatbelts that keep you in preventing you from taking face dives into the ground, and such. If you WANTED to break your arm, you could probably do so fairly easily, but as long as you keep everything inside the cart you'll be okay.

Last time I went(track up in Canada), I slid out/hit from the side in a turn, and went sideways into the wall at about 25mph. OUCH! The kart almost flipped, and my side was aching quite a bit. But it wasn't too bad. I was able to get back into the race.

As far as intentional running into each other they frown on that...but some things can't be helped at 30mph around a corner. ;)

We should do a carpool for this? Who's driving a big rig? Anyone? I got room in my car for a couple people...

Itsmeee has a big-arsed van, and he's carpooling with Fear. I'd talk to him =).

Ender has a good point, btw, these aren't bumper cars. Bumper cars are slow moving padded cars that are designed to be safe.

These are fast moving solid cars that simply aren't designed to pile drive other cars. =).

So...don't intentionally slam into anyone. You generally don't have to be AFRAID of hitting anyone unless you're going 35 and they're...uh...not, but I suspect you'd probably be afraid of doing that even if it was encouraged.

Trust me, 35-40mph feels a lot faster in a go-kart than it does in a car. I'm a mountain biker, and the fastest I've ever gone on my bike is exactly 30mph going down a steep hill on pavement peddling my arse off in the lowest gear.
