This is going to sound absolutely disgusting... but when they were talking of torture... I just thought of the most horrible torture. Make him watch a porno, with his mom sitting next to him. Talk about uncomfortable!!!

Yes you will, all mmorpg's, by nature, are boring, because there is no point in them. There never is, it's not like you can get more 'skilled' at playing them, like you could at CS or BF2, and you can't garner teamwork either - the games are nothing but stat managements and math games with graphics. You can't dodge shots if you are in proximity, no matter if the graphical representation shows it or not, you still lose the life (GW differs slightly in this, but for the most part remains the same). And in the end, when you realize all of this, and note that you have wasted a great deal of time doing it, you then notice that you lost $15.95/month doing it to, and that will haunt you the rest of your life. ;)
Not to discourage you or anything.
The trick is, to really find a game you love - one you can play and don't need anyone playing with you to play it. That's UT for me - I can jump on there and play friggin' bots and be happy. I don't need anyone there to play with me, I can just play it, day in and day out, on pugs, on pubs, on matches, on scrims, with bots, doesn't matter - just playing and I'm happy. When you find yourself doing that with a game, you know you're won. :D

Ultima Online is an MMO that required skill.
Come to think of it, I've been in more UO tourneys than I've ever been in any other tourney for any other game. Ladder matches included. I miss UO. :<

Actually, Asheron's Call is an exception, too. Amazingly competitive PvP environment. And because of the random loot (meaning, though it was incredibly unlikely, you could get "major" spells -- spells with +15 to a skill/attribute -- on low-level monsters), the player economy was extremely complex... so, in your spare time (or, for some, the majority of their time) you could just become a trader, which took skill.
Of course, Turbine was pushed by Microsoft into ruining just about everything except the PvP, in an attempt to accomodate what players were asking for, but it WAS an exception.
Personally, I'm waiting for LotRO, and maybe DDO. Turbine has made great games in the past. AC was right up there with UO was one of the best MMORPGs. AC2 sucked on release, but became a good game the moment Microsoft took their grubby hands out of it.
I'm staying firm in this, though: I refuse to buy an MMO from NCSoft, SOE, or any other company who's created such lifeless MMOs. (That is, CoH, EQ, SWG, Planetside, etc..)
Oh, and I'm waiting for Dawn (http://www.glitchless.com/dawn.html). *dies of laughter*

Quiet, you should play UO with me.
I've been considering playing it for some time now, but no one ever seems to want to play with me. That and I'm having a hard time finding spare time to play it. heh.

I can't get into another MMO right now. Not with school starting next month. I've got to have my time free for homework and studying, at least for the first quarter, until I'm settled in.
Oh, I'm also waiting to see how Tabula Rasa turns out. It is, after all, a Lord British game. ;)

Speaking of MMO's, in an attempt to rid me of my boredom from the rest of the summer, I bought WoW and started playing it today. Its pretty awesome so far.

I remember when he got PK'd back in the UO badass days.

That's another thing that shows a game takes talent... Lord Britsh being killed in his own game.
In AC, there was one quest that they needed to be resolved by the next patch (Turbine does monthly patches, adding content, etc.). There was this huge crystal added to each server. PKs (option in AC) could get into the room... so, you had huge PvP battles over this crystal. On every other server, the crystal was destroyed within a week or two. On the server I played on, it wasn't. The defenders wouldn't let anybody come near enough to destroy it.
So, the admins make a global, as one of the primary NPC characters in the game, that if the defenders to not cede, she will make a personal appearance to destroy it.
She did. And she didn't destroy it -- the devs, as three maxed-out characters, were RAPED by the players.

Hahahaha
In a more recent UO event, the new "Main Character" Dawn was PK'd in an event. Lord Blackthorne got away tho! :<

I love how a thread about hijacking was hijacked.
On the original point: I once had an e-girlfriend whose mother posted on the same message board I met her on.
