View Full Version : Stay Tuned for BLE September...

Signups will be going up shortly for September Something-eth. As a sneak preview, BLE will be moving back to our roots...the Best Western Heritage Inn right off I-5 and Meridian.

BLE simply would not be where it is today without the help of Ghrog and 412i, and everyone should sing praises to Ghrog and his parents for letting us use their office.

We will continue to have Internet access available, and I'm hoping prices will not need to increase from $10 prepay ($15 at the door) but I can't quite promise that for the time being. Snacks and drinks will still be provided as will a modest prize along the same lines as the $30 gift certificate we offered last year.

The good news is that your much loved admins won't have to spend their Sunday cleaning up (which was definitely my least favorite part of BLE)...the bad news is that we're going to need to tone down the noise level, particularly when it gets late, so be aware of that.

The hours will be the same...expect to start 11:00 and end around 2:00-3:00ish...but again, watch that noise level. ;)

Anyway, stay tuned...I expect signups to open within the next seven days or so, pending my ability to make it up to Bellingham to sign the papers and confirm everything. In the mean time, once again, thank you Ghrog and 412i for hosting BLE for nearly two super years.

Oh yea...also, while I generally think of November as BLE's Birthday, I'm toying with the idea of celebrating it in January. I don't quite want to give away the big plans, but I'll give you a hint as to what you can expect.

11 27 23 3 4 6 27 24 8 15 27 22 11 12 16 27 10 4 8 20 3

Don't bother asking what that means, I'm not going to tell you. In fact, I'm not even going to confirm it means anything at all. It could be gibberish. *hums innocently*

Ghrog and I have both decided it's just time for BLE to move on.

The only real downside for you guys is the noise issue. Admittedly, that's gunna be tough to deal with as the BLE crew isn't exactly the quietest group of guys in the world (I include myself in that), but I think this is actually good for long term, namely because spending my Sundays cleaning up was a huge drain on me. I desperately wanted to ease the load, but understandably nobody was keen on the idea. I also wanted to try hiring someone, but as BLE has failed to generate millions for me, that was never really much of an option.

It may seem silly and trivial to you guys, but after almost 2 years of spending pretty much all Sunday cleaning up, it just gets painful...I'm sitting there scrubbing scuff marks out of the floor wondering "why?".

I love our events, don't get me wrong, but not having to spend all day cleaning up is a huge boost to my moral and will likely keep me with BLE quite a bit longer than I otherwise would have been.

Aside from that, the location is good (right next to Denny's...or Shari's...or whatever), it's easier for newbies to find, it's more "professional", we don't have to worry about chairs anymore....in the end I think this will turn out to be a pretty good thing for BLE overall.

It's not a slam dunk, there are drawbacks...hell, I spent $400 on tables as a long term investment and we ended up using them for one event. Now I have no idea what to do with them. But hey...if life was predictable, it'd take all the fun out of it. ;)

Anyway...ya.

As for the disagreements Ghrog and I have had in the previously mentioned threads, I wouldn't jump to any conclusions.

Did that contribute? Yea. Is that the sole reason for the move? No. Would we still be moving if none of that ever happened? Yea. Probably not this month, but likely within the year.

FYI, I missed a number in my little code there.

If anyone's been trying to solve it, I added a 27 between 16 and 10.

No more forth floor. No more Sunday clean up for Dave. No more getting locked out of the building at 2 AM. Close to food. Still has internet.

Sounds good to me.

Do they have AC?

dave, i am pretty sure you can still return the tables. you didnt pay with cash did you?

if you paid with plastic they can scan your card and see what you have purchased there. costco is generally pretty nice about returns.

if i was you i would try to get in there within a month of the purchase date, but I have no idea how long they keep that of information, it could be even longer than that. 90 days?

You should "sell" ble to me...

Looks like there is a six month return policy for computers. Other than that you should heve no problem if you are "unsatisfied" with the tables.

There are. I was actually looking at a studio/gallery space to rent downtown, but it takes some time.

Are you in a contract dave for the best western?

Is it going to be small like last time? or are they giving us more room?

About how many people do you think we can squeeze in there? and will we have room for the consoles?

DiscoDave
08-11-2005, 01:14 PM
We could fit 30 people plus consoles in there pretty easily, and we've been getting less than 25 people lately (last event had 21 signups), so there's plenty of room for the time being.

There's only 4 circuits in that room dave. Unless you want to push your luck (the electrical guy doesn't work saturdays so you can't flip a breaker if you overload it) you won't get 30 people in there.

Nope, 6 foot tables.

As far as how much space, I was just talking about physical dimensions. I'm going over there tomorrow to sort out power.
