What is it with me and reformating? I'm reformating yet AGAIN! I decided to ditch LILO because I couldn't get it configured the way I wanted it. So I read and read and read, and found that a lot of people couldn't get rid of it. Finally, I found an FAQ on Microsofts webpage on how to uninstall it. So I tried that. Rebooted, and now I'm in the same boat as a ton of other people. I'm pissed. So now I'm reformatting my 1st partition, and reinstalling XP. As soon as that's done, I'm deleting my Linux Partitions. All they did was give me a massive headache. I'm done with Linux.

I already had it installed before you warned me. I hold you completely responsible for not warning me earlier!

That's what I love about M4L. Completely rational and super-humanly logical.

Careful. I think lilo may hide some stuff in the master boot record. I would have to search online as I do not remember for sure. If you have a 98 boot disk you might boot up and type one of the following. "fdisk /mbr" I think thats the command. or it may be "format /mbr". I just rember it was a real pain in the ass to get rid of.

Edit:
It is "fdisk /mbr". But this may not work. a 98 boot disk will not be able to remove a linux partition either. you may be able to remove the linux partition with the XP disk during reinstall. I don't rewmber if it can or not. If not download a utility to write Zeros to the whole disk. You can usualy get them from the hard drive manufactures web site. if not, do a search and download MadBoot. I believe a MadBoot boot disk can do this.

I deleted the primary partition before I reformatted. It's all working fine now. I just rebooted to make sure!

I'm glad you got it working. Its easy to install Linux. But hard as hell to get it off and keep windows.
