Squaring off today (March 18, 2004) in the Second Round of the Black Mesa Bracket of the GameSpy.com Title Fight:

1. Half-Life vs. 4. Quake II

6. Unreal Tournament vs. 2. Counter-Strike

The winners of those matches will face each other in the Black Mesa championship...

Bad News: The winner of the Black Mesa championship will likely have to face Halo (X-Box) in the Mushroom Kingdom bracket!

Halo faced Goldeneye in it's opening round, and promptly stomped a hole in it. I was torn, since I love both games. But I voted Halo. Halo then defeated Quake (50.1% to 49.9% vote). Goldeneye was awarded an Extra-Life and now has to face Halo AGAIN!

HL & CS IMO. HL just had a better story then Quake2 though Quake2 started some amazing things going in games. But carmacks games have a tendency of shaping the face of the market.

CS just because it was fun in its time and better then the original UT imo.

Halo defeated Goldeneye.

Next Opponent: Half-Life

Half-Life should beat Quake 2... hands down. Although Quake 2 online play was better (no mods considered). Also, HL used the Quake 2 engine, and modified it to a much better level of coding.

actually Half Life uses some of Quake I and Quake II as well as a good chunk of their own work. :)
