As in...you're dreaming, and something happens that totally shocks you? It's happened to me a few times, and it's always sort of bizarre for me to think about.

Last night I was in a movie directed by some hybrid of David Lynch and M Night Shamahimalayandirkadirkalan.

Hearing about people's dreams are boring. If you don't want to be bored, skip to the bottom of the post.

---

I was on foot, lost in a big city. The place was pretty dirty and it obviously wasn't a good neighborhood to be in, but fortunately nobody was around. If you've ever seen Jacob's Ladder, it was along those lines except not underground.

I never thought of Jacob's Ladder until just now, but perhaps it was a subliminal influence on me...because I came across a train. It was stopped, the doors were open, and there was a bunch of people inside. I entered the train and it was a complete freak show. Goths, overweight prostitutes with too much makeup...there was one table with a bunch of ugly fat women playing strip poker, all clearly drugged out of their minds. I walked into the next train and it was full of kids about 5 years old or so, and they were all drinking tequilas and smoking cigarettes. The next car had a bunch of hippies that were literally right out of the 70s...or at least, a 70's movie. 70's hair styles, 70's clothes, and they were all taking hits of crack and other random drugs.

At this point I decided that I was wasting my time on this train because everyone ignored me, so I got off the train before entering the next car and I found myself in some freaky grim china-town, completely different from the setting I was in when I got on the train. Very seedy, very empty, very dark. I got back on the train thinking if I walked back to where I got on, I would at least find myself where I began.

I'm getting a little freaked out at this point, so I run through the train cars. It's still filled with various druggy nutjobs, and they're all still ignoring me, but they're completely different nutjobs cars....the car with the 70s whackjobs was replaced with some bizarre theme of people, I can't remember anymore. I started running through the train cars, and nothing looked familiar. I must have went through about 10 cars or so, each having their own different brand of "strange" before finally giving up. I got off the train and suddenly I was on this green field outside a mansion in the (finally) daytime. I was also 90 years old. No sign of the train.

I walked into the mansion and discovered that it was some sort of super-fancy retirement home. There were several really old people mulling about, including one on the couch drinking some random alcoholic beverage. He didn't see me at first, but when he did he sprung from the couch and came after me.

Right at that point, I had my M Night Shamallahyweioutrlkhasdfiyan moment. My dream literally had a flash back of one of the kids on the train drinking, and it was...BUMBUMBUM...the same person, except now he was 80 instead of 5.

Realizing this, I turned to run (how either of us could run at 80 is beyond me). He caught me, tackled me on the grassy field, and started choking me. Somehow, from somewhere (I don't know if I don't remember, or if there never was any explanation in my dream) I found a shotgun nearby. I was able to grab it, pull it above my body so I could aim it with both my hands (the guy focused entirely on choking me) and I blew his head off. It wasn't bloody, it was more like his head just burst into fragments...as if his head was made out of glass. I pushed his body aside, got up, and saw an eye laying on the grass. I sort of looked at it for a second, and it just exploaded with a force of a small firecracker.

And that was that...I woke up.

----

I'm very interested in the idea that an aspect of a dream, created by me, can surprise me. As in..genuinely catch me off guard, "I didn't see that coming", surprise me.

Have you guys had dreams like that?

I think so, but I can't remember specific examples. But it would be something a lot like that, where part of the dream suddenly referred back to a previous part of the dream in a way that I didn't see coming. I think one of the reasons it's like that is because in the world of dreams you usually don't "remember" things from one part of the dream to the next, the world just changes around you and you move from scene to scene. I kind of like it when I have dreams with some kind of coherent structure or theme, even if they are scary or shocking. It's like my subconscious is actually thinking up creative ideas in my sleep, which is pretty cool. I'm entertaining myself!

I never really had the impression I was controlling anything, unfortunately. It was more like how Pine described it...I was wandering around doing things, but it all felt very passive.

Apparently it's possible to, while you're dreaming, realize you're dreaming change the dream so you can do whatever you like...I've never been able to do that, however. There have been a bunch of times where I realized I was dreaming, but the moment I make that realiziation I wake myself up.

It's probably for the best I can't do that...I'd never want to wake up!

As for Fear and weird dreams: Last nite I dreamed that I got into a fistfight with my Dad because he thought I bent two of his drillbits. Was I surprised? No. lol

If you bent my drill bits, I'd kick your ass so hard, you wouldn't even feel it.

I don't remember any dreams anymore. The only dreams I end up remembering are the kind that piss me off. A bunch of really really good stuff happens to me, the "too good to be true" type cliche stuff, then I wake up and realize "Fuck, it WAS too good to be true!"

That has only happpened to me once in my life. I cant remember exactly when it was, but it was around when I was 7 years old. It was so long ago, that I cant remember any details about the dream, but I was driving a go-kart down a street and I was really scared that I was going to crash into a car or go off the road or something. But then something suddenly clicked in my brain and I realized I was dreaming. So I had tons of fun, drove around, crashed into things and I cant really remember much more.

If only every one of my dreams was like that
:slant:

Nowadays I only remember my dreams (if I even have any) anywhere from 1 to 3 times a month. And there usually pretty weird/boring dreams.

lol yeah that happens to me too like, 1 in every 5 of my dreams. It totally sucks. I try to go back to sleep and continue the dream but that never works because im already awake and realized that it was a dream so theres no way my brain could go back into thinking that the great situation in my dream was actually reality.
