So, somehow I got this virus, a Trojan.startpage. Yea, seems simple enough, ran norton, found it...couldn't touch it. Well shizzle. Then I got this adware called CoolWWWsearch WHICH FUCKING SUCKS BALLS. I cannot get rid of it. I used adaware, Search and Destroy, Spysubtract, each time I run them it finds something, but I still get the virus popup and with it comes other random popups. So I think I may have to format. GG ADWARE GG.
Anyone else have any ideas before I lose it all?

Go to either semantec's or Mcafee's site and do a search for the virus. Then follow their removal instructions. Often you have to download a special tool to do it that is not included in the anivirus software you have installed.
#1 on the list when I searched with google.

I followed those instructions as one of my first responses to the threat, but it didn't work. Each time it finds the virus and tells me, it also brings up a error message about not finding a certain .dll file. Maybe I'm missing something that the virus needs? lol

Maybe thats because if it can't remove it, it also can't detect it. ;)

If your running 2 antiviruses at the same time, I'm not surprised that your performance is suffering.

CoolWeb is easily taken care of via CW Shredder. (http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/CWShredder-Download-8114.html)
Also, get Hijack This (http://www.download.com/HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10307556.html?tag=lst-0-1) for the trojan. Careful with hijack this because it pulls up a lot of legitimate software... just get rid of the crap you don't use.
Combine that with Adaware, Spybot, and online virus scans at trendmicro and pandasoftware, and you'll rid yourself of 99% of your problems.
Occasionally I get files that the virus programs detect but cannot delete because they are loaded in memory... to get rid of them just make a note of the file path, reboot in safe mode, and delete them there.

Ok, it's all good, no more Trojan, and the other weaksauces are gone...except for one lil' thing, I occasionally get a popup...thinking about completely deleting Internet Explorer to see if that solves the problem, cause thats where all these damn things run off of.

You cant do it. You can hide IE. But you cant remove it.Try installing Google toolbar or another pop up blocker. Or try another browser such as firefox, opera, or avant.

I currently use Firefox, but these popups come from Internet Explorer. I don't even need to be at the computer and it comes up occasionally. Any ideas? I could get a popup blocker, but don't really wanna get a whole program just to stop these 2 popups.
Hide it how? And would hiding it make it no longer accept links and such? That would be sweet...anything to make it not work unless I fix it.
