View Full Version : X-Box used on PC via USB

Here's the dilly, yo:
1. My roommate bought a USB X-Box Controller adapter, so he could use his X-Box controller with his PC (I don't wanna hear it, PCers!).
2. He downloaded the drivers for it, but they didn't seem to work.
3. Halo PC does not recognize the controller when it's plugged in.

How do we remedy this situation?

It's NOT easy. Give me 2 minutes. I don't know where the correct drivers are on the net. I spent at least 45 minutes trying different drivers before I could find one that even works half way. And then, it's a pain just to get the correct drivers installed. I'll upload the files I've got on my comp right now.

Hold on... my upload crap isn't working..

Right-Click and save as (http://home.comcast.net/~m4lfunct10n/XBCD.zip)

Unpack the drivers. Plug in your xbox controller, and delete any previous drivers you have installed. When you get the "found new hardware" crap, choose "Install from a list or a specific location (advanced)". Then choose, "don't search. I will choose the driver to install". Unclick the box that says "show compatible hardware". Go to the top of the list on the left that shows hardware manufacturers. Choose, "Standard system devices". On the right, choose "HID Compliant device". Then click the "have disk" option. Browse to the folder you unpacked and select the "XBCD.inf" file. Select the first xbox gamepad on the list and click next. Install all the files. Click finish. Now you will get another "Found new hardware" thing. This time choose "install the software automatically". It will do the rest. Then just go into the Control Panel and calibrate it. You might have a few problems, but this is the closest driver I can find. My problems to date are all about the right thumbstick. The sensitivity is crap. If you can find some better drivers let me know!

BTW this is the installation procedure for XP. It should be the same or similar for any other version of windows.

Download this file too!!! (http://home.comcast.net/~m4lfunct10n/XBCDSetup_v95.cab)

Okay, so download this file too. Unpack it and save it somewhere. I *think* this is also needed. I don't remember if it was installed with the other file or not. But this file will let you map buttons and stuff.

Disregard this thread!

MODS - SEND IT TO THE TRASH COMPACTOR!

(I got it to work... now just need my roommate to get a RAM and Vid Card upgrade, and he'll be set for Halo PC.)

btw... is the right thumbstick working in the games?(sensitivity). Try it in UT2k4 and tell me if it does. Cause I can't get that part working.

Yeah, it works. You might have to go to the control panel and go to "Calibrate Controller" if you have that option... that's what I did.

The problem though is that the left thumbstick (move and strafe) is being problematic... Sometimes when pressing forward, it's really moving diagonally... So, instead, I made it so I can use the D-Pad to do that, and now it works like a champ.

Of course, his slow computer and the sloppy framerate make it a pain in the ass to snipe people, but I can still get my kills with the pistol.

Follow this link. (http://www.electricquarter.com/xboxcont.htm)

Under "Description" is the drivers that are available. This is the same USB adapter my roommate purchased.

So this works eh? Well? mwuahahahah...I think M4L is going to have some proving to do in 2k4 next LAN. :D

I'll be doing some proving.. But it will be a mix. Controller left hand, mouse right. Response time might be down just a bit, but it just feels better. More ergonomic.

thats just creepy...you can't mix the two worlds, you either gotta use mouse and keyboard or just controller. There will be some kind of chemical reaction when you do that ending in a large explosion.
