View Full Version : Reflections on the LAN

This is for anyone who has any thoughts on the LAN that they'd like to share.

Mine are:

I apologize for all the putting-down of sky that I have done recently. I had breakfast with him and Thantos, and he's a really interesting and bright person.

On that vein, I actually had more face-to-face time at this LAN than playing games. I think I only played one game of UT2k4 with people in the room, and never got DC working. Instead, I had fun via real life. I enjoyed those things a whole lot more than any kind of game-playing I could have done.

I took pictures, but the movie I took in the Spinning Suzuki (Metro's are made by Suzuki) was lost because of two things: The upload was corrupted to my server, and when I got home, I deleted the local copy because I thought "Hey! it's up on the server, I don't need this one.." :selfbonk:

I've heard a number of complaints that UT was the only real game played. There were minor bouts of Tetris, DC, Shot-Online, and a few others, but yes...UT definitely dominated the lan.

Yea, we didn't bother with the Games of the Hour. Partly because Ender and I are lazy bastards, partly because of technical issues with our computers, and...well...hey, it is a free lan, after all, so admittedly we weren't too motivated to work ourselves too hard.

Speaking of which, the room was very clean by BLE standards. Thank you for that...it's probably no surprise that cleaning up after lans is not our favorite part of BLE.

Comments and ideas are always welcome, unless we don't like them. Then you can keep them to yourselves. ;)

Well, aside from getting locked out, and getting a bit sick last night...

I was a bit annoyed by UT being the only game played. I gave up on it fairly quickly (it was making me dizzy!), and played some CSS with Tyler (UB_Bomber) on various servers. It would have been a bit easier if I'd remembered my mousepand. As it was, I had to use a magazine, and my mouse kept falling off the edge of the magazine.

I, too, spent more time talking to people (or aimlessly staring into my monitor, without focusing) than actually gaming.

Fun pictures. Nasty... err... iceless cream (the plate and the bucket-ish object).

Nothing to say that hasn't been said, so I'll just *2 it. It was fun and more face-to-face than avatar-to-avatar, and I don't have/enjoy UT2k4, though movies and Morrowind kept me busy. Tree branch tentacle rape! :hump: *laughs hysterically while sitting on the ground* One of us? Inebbitably.

OMFG!! Where can I get one?!

Confusion. N is NOWHERE near p, a, or d. No need to space during "pad".... I think it's a conspiracy.

That's a self-fulfilling prophesy, wasting an entire post just to say that.

Whereas, I will enlighten people as to why a big cup of coffee gets cold slower than a small cup of coffee :moon::

The larger cup of coffee has a higher total kinetic energy, where the smaller cup has a lower total, and its temperature will subsequently fall faster. That's also why lakes take longer to cool/evaporate than puddles.

Because the molecule wave forms in said burning object are moving faster than normal thus creating friction and combustion. theby releasing energy faster than your mom on a first date!

The Geo Metro is built in Canada by a joint venture of General Motors and Suzuki, and is also sold as the Suzuki Swift.
Yes. Chevy is owned by GM, so is Geo. To my knowledge, Suzuki and GM are not owned by each other.

Nope, but American and Japanese car manufacturers traded parts in the 1990s. That's how you end up with things like the Dodge Raider and Chrysler minivans with Mitsubishi 3.0L engines.

Suzuki makes the Swift/Metro, just like Kia made the Ford Festiva.

If you really care, check the VIN number. If it starts with J, it was made in Japan. 1 or 2 is US. Mexico's is a jalapeņo.

UB_Bomber
01-23-2005, 11:06 PM
ok lets just say this. the motor is made by suziki and the body is by geo and geo is owned by GM. so lets just say its a geo. besides is a new chevy diesel an izuzu because the duramax diesel is made by izuzu. um..... I think not. its still a chevy. izuzu made a good motor(finaly) and chevy just took credit for it.

along the same lines so is a dodge. they have a cummings diesel in them. they are still a dodge. :D

You're kidding, right? If not, I'd be surprised if you knew what physics pertained to :P It has nothing at all to do with Kinetic Energy, as it's not moving anywhere anytime soon. It's thermal energy of some sort, don't know myself as it's coming up in the next few weeks in my physics class, thermodynamics is. Right now we're doing spinning stuff/torque, etc. I do hope that was a joke though, as you look too old to not know something basic like that. If it was a joke, ignore this post. :P Else, ignore it. Or go take a physics class? *shrug* <3  :spam: :hump: <3

You're kidding, right?
He's right.

That's not the ONLY reason, and he puts it in more complicated terms than it really needs to be in, but yea.

Put in simpler terms, heat is temperature times mass. The more mass you have, the longer it takes for a change in temperature to take place.

Heat is a form of kinetic energy, as is "thermal energy". So everyone's right.

Another main contributing factor is that a big cup of coffee has more insulation than a small cup...the coffee itself IS the insulator. If you were to take that big cup of coffee and store it in a real long straw made of the same material and thickness as the cup, it'd still cool far faster than the coffee in the cup.

Physics 101 Question: What shape of container would provide the most efficient insulation for that coffee?

I was just thinking about heat energy today at my job. Namely that, no matter how good of a job I do straightening up the restaurant, the net randomness of the universe will increase. So really, there's no point in worrying about setting up the salt and pepper shakers nicely next to the ketchup bottle because entropy makes it impossible to increase order in the universe as a whole. I don't think Red Robin knew I was a "big picture" person when they hired me.
