Wow... Okay, you keyboard guys HAVE to try this. I fixed the adapter up all nice and good. I used some heatshrink to seal it all up and it looks pretty good. But on to the good stuff.

I've got it set up like this:

Left hand: Xbox controller

1 trigger, thumbstick, and D-pad.
I've got the trigger set to jump, and both the thumbstick and the directional pad control forward/back, and strafe left/right. For the most part you keep your thumb on the thumbstick. Dodging is easy. The only hard thing is using your powerups. In that case you use the D-pad. Or, if you wanted to, you could map the d-pad buttons to do other things.

Right hand: Mouse Logitech MX 500

Mouse controls look/aim. Left button controls primary fire, right button controls secondary fire. Scroll changes weapons. Thumb button 1 is crouch. Thumb button 2 is use. The buttons in front and behind of the scroll button are forward and backwards in your inventory.

Set up this way, I still have 1 open mouse button(but it's kind of hard to reach). This also leaves 2 more buttons on the Xbox controller(not including the right half of the controller.

After playing this way for 10 minutes.... I don't see how the keyboard can have ANY advantages. you have just as many buttons if not more(within reach), and it is very ergonomic. All I can say, is I am completely amazed. You guys HAVE to try this out!

Eh...I'm not convinced a joystick for movement would be too useful to me.

I've got Shift mapped to "walk" for precise movements, but I almost never use it...it's all or nothing, with me. (In so many aspects of my life :erm:).

Anyway, it seems like the joystick movement is the only real advantage to that over a normal keyboard....unless I'm missing something.

Well, I can't explain it. But I believe the reaction times are faster with a joystick. For example, to go from forward/right to backwards/left, you have to switch from two keys, to two other keys. On a joystick it's a simple flick of one toggle. But I guess you'll just have to try it and decide if you like it or not.

Moving my finger from the w to s key is less movement than the full travel on your joystick. and my s and f keys always have a finger right above them. so I am only swiching one finger. and i can press left before I let off of right. That means instant change. With a joystick you have to travel from one extreme to another. How many pro tournament players use a joystick for a FPS?
