PDX has brought their website for PDXLAN 5 live at http://www.pdxlan.net/pdxlan5/news.php. There's good news to be had here: they've moved the date up a week so now there's a full two weeks between PDX and PAX, which means for those like me who want to, you can now have a better chance of getting to both.
I'm still highly interested in taking a BLE contingent to this event. Reason is, this is like a LAN and MidLAN gathering all in one. I don't have to take any part in PDX LAN in the form of running it or any part of it, so I will be totally available to just play play play, and that I'll be able to do with anyone that comes with me, which would just rule since I never get to play that much with you guys as it is now. Plus, since it's 4 days long, I plan on doing much other stuff than LANing - like seeing some of the sights in Portland, and golfing and other stuff. It'd be rad to do this with you guys - my friends. :rup:
I'm probably going to go to PAX as well, but this isn't likely going to be similar as I think I'll be involved in some of the stuff at PAX which will keep me from playing - similar to BLE LANs only probably less playing.
Also, Maddeh is coming up to PDX to go with me so if you ever wanted to hang with him and game and the like then this is a good time to do it.
Signups go live on the 22nd, and I'd very much like to have (if any of you are interested) something organized by then. Let me know if you want to go!
The price is something like $40 prepaid, which is very very good imo, considering you get 4 days of LAN. That's $10 per day - cheaper than us! This also will be the largest west coast LAN in N.A. and the most sponsored LAN in N.A. so it will be event long remembered.
Let me know - :woot:

You don't GAME with Maddeh. You sit in awed reverence as he stains your head with the Lightning Gun (mid-air).

My god, are you serious?
This lan is HOSTED by PDX and they want an ONS tourney?
Maybe PCB is giving me the wrong impression about what PDX is supposed to be like.. :p

pdX the clan and PDXlan are not affiliated in any way. In fact, {pdX}Crossbox used to help admin the network and he stopped doing it because he didn't get along with Vector, the guy who runs it. I could say some choice things about Vector, but this is a public forum. Long story short, don't expect much from the management of this thing, especially in terms of listening to what the gamers want if you post your concerns on the forum. It took nox and I weeks to get them to agree to a reasonably sane map rotation at the first pdxlan for the UT2k3 1v1.
You might actually have some luck pushing TDM or CTF for 2k4 though; there are almost as many teams on ladders for those gametypes as there are for ONS now.

I didn't see anywhere that said how many people will be allowed to attend. It just claims to be the bigest west coast lan. I need numbers.

So who is planing on going for sure. I'm 90% sure of going, only because I know people will not just game. I plan on getting a room and a fridge full of beer. I'll be looking for someone to share the room. I don't know what BLE plans on doing about a room at this LAN. But mine will be 21 and over only. ;)
I'm going to start stashing $50 a month away for this trip. I'll take a couple well deserved vacation days off of work and call it a vacation. I thought about asking my dad for the motorhome. But I think parking would be a pain. And I don't have to clean a hotel room when I'm done.
I'll be bringing my Cameras of course, fo the LAN and any extra activities/parties.
So who is going? or very sure of going?

You can use a debit card just like a credit card in almost any situation. They all come with a credit card type number on them. I've used mine to buy things online on countless occasions; I don't even have a credit card.

On another note... will we have to pay for our own hotel rooms?

THe site said its a 1000 man lan... I would think with the amount of space they have they could actually fit more, but that's a lot of comps to power.
I am definitely going.. not sure if the wife will be coming as well though. If she does I will have my own room, if she doesn't i'd be willing to share a room with 21+ persons. ;)

DZ, I can probably find a friend in {pdX} clan who lives in Portland and is driving to the LAN and will let you spend the night at their house.... if you're the adventurous type. :) However if a bunch more people need the same thing I'd probably have to rescind on that offer since most of pdX clan actually stays in a hotel too and it wouldn't be fair if only one or two people got another place to stay. However depending on how big of a crew we get, you're not going to have to pay as much as you think for hotel. You can pack a lot of people into one of those rooms.
I remember when I went the first and second times, the event fee was 40 bucks. For that, gas, hotel, and food I think the weekend cost me about 100-120 bucks. So with the increased fee I doubt it would be more than 150, and for a kickass 4 day lan, imho, it's worth it. Talk to your parents about possibly funding part of it, like food and gas or something, and save your money. ;)

I've got a job so money isn't really the issue, I was just wondering what the total costs would be so I'd know how much to save for the event. :D

I'd just save for now - once we know who is going and is willing and can etc. then we'll look into Hotel accomodations. If enough of us go, then sharing hotel rooms will bring the cost down considerably so it won't be that bad. :rup:

Figure At least $100 a night, split between however many people are sharing the room.
