View Full Version : XBox Live: Worth it?

We're finally getting broadband in Sudden Valley (I personally get it Wednesday!) and so along with that comes the option of getting XBox Live... and, as the topic title implies, I was wondering if it's worth it. Particularly, which games are best on XBox Live? I was planning to just hold off until Halo 2 came out.

I'm on Live. So far I've got Unreal Championship and Counter Strike(got it for free, haven't played it though).
UC is awesome on Live. Very fast paced. And the nice thing is you can match yourself against people of the same skill level. I'm hoping to get some more Live games soon. Pick up a copy of Xbox Magazine for a free 2 month subscription(double check that they are still giving it away). They are starting to send out live enabled demos so you can get a really good idea whether it is worth it. For the cost, I think it's a great deal. Since I have very few friends to play with, I can play online and get a similar experience. And the headset is a must! Nothing better than yelling at your opponent as you kill him!

Have you ever played Ghost Recon (on Live)? The only Live enabled games I have are UC and Ghost Recon (at the moment) though I'm thinking about getting Rainbow Six 3 and/or Counterstrike.
I really don't want Counterstrike that much, though, seeing as I already have it for the computer...

I wouldn't bother with CS. It doesn't have any single player missions. And there aren't any split screen options either.
Haven't tried Ghost Recon yet. I have Rainbow 6 Rogue Spear for computer. Had fun, but was kind of undecided. I've been reluctant to buy another one since. I enjoy realistic, but I prefer a game where you can take more than 2 hits before you die.

Ghost Recon and Ghost Recon: IT are both good on Live.
My favorites are Midnight Club II, Rainbow Six 3, and Crimson Skies.
But I'm probably not going to renew my subscription until True Fantasy Live Online and Halo 2 hit the shelves. Those are the next Live games I'm looking forward to.

How is Midnight Club II on Live? I've just played it single player. Thought it was a lot of fun too!

Midnight Club II is great on Live. Really addicting. You don't have to just Race either, you get capture the flag type games as well... It's pretty cool.

well, a friend an i used to play live a lot, but yeah... im my opinion, it starts to get really boring, plus for the games that i really like (NFL fever 2003) people arent online as much anymore. PLus if u are a noob at the game, most people will be extremely good a certian game, lol, then u get totally eaten alive, lol. but yeah, im still thinkin about getting it, just for the hell of it. but first i gotta get a credit card (parents wont let me use there, damn...)

That sounds bizarre yet strangely appealing...

I hear that return to castle wolfenstein has suprisingly good online play for xbox. Atleast thats what i heard many forumites at the gamespot forums back when the game was released. Personally, i'm holding out til halo 2 to get live again. I got it a while ago becuase i was really into NBA 2k3.

RtCW might be fun online, but the singleplayer/multiplayer co-op modes blow dasies compared to the PC version
