View Full Version : Like a fine wine, BLE gets better with age...

The event of events has finally passed...and it was grand. BLE's birthday bash has come and gone leaving only fond memories and half an office floor to be cleaned. :erm:

28 hours of gaming (sorry those of you who were kicked out 2 hours shy of what you were promised), hundreds of dollars in food and drink, and hundreds and hundreds of dollars worth of prizes, Mario Tennis up the wazoo, if you were unable or unwilling to attend this lan, you fail at life. Not to rub it in to those of you who were kept away against your will (*coughcoughfearcough*), but, and in all modesty, this was a hell of a lan.

Whether you liked the spontanious grudge matches, the well-organized tri-athalon, or the good company, I think it's safe to say that everyone got their fair $15/$20 worth in abundance. How do we do it? How do we throw the type of lan that people who charge twice as much as we do can only dream of?

It's all in the wrists, baby.

All (okay, maybe most) ego-stroking aside, the party turned out very well in the opinion of everyone I heard from, aside from those who were touched by the demons of Techno-Hell and had a few problems from their computer. I know, I know...the idea that computers could ever just not work for mysterious reasons sounds completely absurd to most of us, but it happens...I've seen it myself!

Anyway, thanks to everyone who made not just this lan a complete success, but for giving BLE a year of great lans. But your duty is not done yet.

You see, when BLE bought the VB license, there were two routes we could choose. We could lease it for one year at a time, or for twice as much, we could buy "ownership", where the forum software is ours forever. We elected the latter option, which means we still need to keep this up for at least another year, or else we'll feel like retards.

So, with a virtual glass in hand, I propose a toast to another year of great parties. Cheers!

And for those of you curious of the next lan party, BLE will return in full force in January, and we'll be announcing a December gathering "soon".

From all of us at BLE except Ender and Ghrog, neither of whome care about you, thanks again to everyone. ;)

As much as I would like to say it was a really fun mini-lan party like the last two, it wasnt. When I arrived at his house, and set my computer up, he gets a phone call from one of this friends Austin. So he invites Austin to come over and im like wtf...... and he tells me that its ok austin will just play xbox the whole time and he and I can still play pc games and stuff. Well austin comes over, and wes and I LITERALLY did not play ANY pc games at ALL. He played Halo 2 with austin the ENTIRE time. It made me so mad that not only could I have been at a real lan party, but I would have won prizes and had loads of fun but no instead I got to watch them play halo and me goof around aimlessly on my computer for a day and a half. What a waste of a weekend.

But then again the other two mini-lan partys ive had at his house werent THAT great either. Goofing around on battlefield vietnam and playing a warcraft game here and there. Nothing too special.

Jon your and I's mini-lans are W A Y better. Jon2lanwithAlbertasapkthx.

An awesome experience, except for @ 4 am saturday morning when i literally got so tired i stopped in the middle of a game with ghrog and fell asleep for 5 minutes at my computer. We had some intense DDOM and ctf games all the more fun because there was no warmup mode. I believe every ddom game was 3-2 even though the same teams didn't win every time, and although some ctf games were 3-0 we also had some great 3-2 ones like citadel. And pine made me remember why I like ctf much better than 1v1 or TDM ;)

The time does really fly by. I was like "holy shit, its 6am. I should get some sleep. So I took a blanket and went to sleep in an office next to the lan room. I woke up a few times to go to the bathroom. around 8am I think it was I stumbled out of the office and when I came back from the bathroom Ender was like "You, grudge match with 4 other people Mario Cart GO, winner gets Tribes V" I was like "I have no clue whats going on in this silly thread" I was one less crash away from winning T:V.

Congrats BLE!

P.S. Disco - I knew it! I knew Ghrog and Ender never cared about me.

:woot: That was a blast! I still look really bad (for those of you who saw me - for those that didn't, just imagine and Ender that went 41 hours on no sleep :rup: ) but at least I'm not all tired like I was. ;)

First off, I'm very sorry for those who had the computer problems. Throwing a LAN party is hard, and it is much harder when somone comes to a LAN and their computer doesn't work. I wish I was an all knowing computer tech god, but I'm not and not able to fix things.

Also, I'm very sorry for those of you who didn't get any prizes...oh, wait, there wasn't anybody who didn't get a prize. ;) I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that everyone walked away with more than they paid in prizes alone - ie not counting the food consumed. :)

Everything came off really well, and I have to say that I am pretty well pleased with it. Of course there are a thousand things I wished would have been different or things I could have done better or controlled better, but that will always be the case with me. ;)

Can't wait till January! But don't expect so much next time - you guys nearly killed us! :stare: ;) :p Except at Mario Tennis doubles that is...OH WHAT NOBODY COULD TAKE ON THE DAVE AND ENDER AND WIN. pizwnt. ;)

Can you say best LAN ever? I can.

Plus I can also say I finally got Battlefield 1942 due to aimbot wallhaxing (ie, CS skills) and Ednar generosity (ie, I had already bought Tribes Vengence and won it about 50 billion times at previous LANs so he opted to give me BF instead) :D

I'm not as suck as I think I am...I managed to run the auto-skill bots on UT2k4 up to "Adept"

And that was before I fixed my grandma-esque mouse sensitivity

I'm gonna go try that now.. I wonder if I can get to godlike ;>

Considering I rampaged on in a 1v1 Godlike duel, I would hope so :p

EDIT: lol, here are the results. God I'm such a loser.
