View Full Version : HALO at the LAN

that LAN was pretty tight tonight. I would have liked a little more normal games, (no rockets), but it was fun none the less. gonnorea is probably the funniest halo player ever and quick draw does have a quick pistal. i think me and R-Dizzle backed up our posts in both TS and CTF with our strats. hey quick, contact me or dizzle if you would want us at a LAN sometime. just email me. and Stumanji, you should have played longer, i didn't really get to see you play. and if the admin could change my name to d@n 3ooo that would be cool, bishop is an old name. See all you homies at the bottom of the carnage reports, haha, jk. kinda.

It was pretty fun tonight. Too bad the only 16 player game was part of the PC Players' triathalon. 15 was as close as we could get, but it was good enough for me.
Some of the names I played under:
1. CrapStack
2. Balls
3. U GotServed
The Rocket-game after Rocket-game got pretty annoying...
I would have liked to do a wider variety of team games. I don't think we did anything in teams besides CTF and Slayer. Oddball, King of the Hill, Race (Rally) are all pretty fun when you got the right level and weapons. Those Melee matches are always entertaining (probably would have made a good team game, come to think of it).
Hopefully we can get numbers like this next time.

Glad you enjoyed yourselves! We'll try to have a little higher X-Box / Player ratio next time, and of course more people would likely help getting a wider variety of games being played.
Any other feedback would be very much appreciated...neither Ender or I are particularly in touch with the x-box demands, as I'm sure you know. What things did you like, what things didn't you like, what things could we try to improve, what things we may have tried to do but maybe shouldn't...anything, really.
One thing we definitely want is X-Box Live potential for the next lan, so that'll be something we work on.
Bishop...I'm sending you a PM regarding your name change.

My xbc tag is TheOutlaws. You can add me to the friend list thing. Also my aim name is Reverend JimCasy, i'm pretty much always signed on but whether i'm actually at the computer is the question. Anyway, yeah i had a good time tonight. It was good to have some good competition and even lose! **gasp**. Bishop and R-Dizzle played a good game, their rat race strategy was very well thought out and they did it well. We started to figure it out at the end but it was too little too late. Rat Race isn't really one of our main maps though. We usually play, Hang em, BC, Prisoner (yeah you remember that, jk), Chill Out, and Longest. Those are the main maps we play for TS, but we usually are down for whatever. I'll see you guys on XBC. It'll be nice to have some good competition and it shouldn't have to resort to my lag pistol, hopefully it'll run with out any lag.

Oh and btw this is Quick Draw. Yeah it would be better if we had more xboxs and what not next time so that multiple games could be going on at once because 10-16 man games can get kind of annoying after a really long time playing them. I wish we would have jumped on the 1 vs 1 tournament for ninja gaiden, i just read its review at GameSpot...9.4. And they review really tough, they know their games. At the time i think i was a bit "halo'd out" and wasn't really in the mood for any intense games. I think if we started the tournaments earlier like a few hours after everyone's been playing awhile the response would have been alot more...well...responsive. We just kind of sat their and shrugged. Anyways, see ya guys in 4 weeks. I think i might buy Call of Duty tomorrow, because SoF2 is getting pretty old and i wanna be in the main stream of things. Completely owning people and being well-known is nice but game is getting repetitive in general. So hopefully CoD will be included in the next BLE.

It IS awesome. Get a subscription to Xbox Mag. and you'll get to play all the demos. Or you can be like me buy them everymonth at newstand price.( Yeah I know. I need to get a subscription).
Man, I need to get back into Halo. I've got strategy down for UC, but nothing for Halo. I might have to get back on XBC just so I can practice. I got served BIG TIME. But it's all good. Just means next time it will be a major diss when the loser from the last lan takes you out! Wait, that probably won't happen. But maybe we can get some more UC going. No bots next time. I'm hoping next time we can get a little more variety to the mix. Not just Halo, but a little more mix of other games for the tourney. Possibly trifecta similar to the PC one. An FPS, a racing game, and a fighting game. To satisfy the people that only want to play Halo, we can set up a 3 of the smaller rooms specifically for Halo.
Suggestions will definately help in making the next event a success. So keep the feedback coming!

its seems like most people were irritated by the endless rocket games so I'm wondering why we were playing them. My brother, and Gunnar (The Condor) thought we were the only ones that were getting tired of it. I find though once you get into the crazy rocket type games its hard to go back to common type games etc. The boxing matches/kingofthehill/oddball were really fun.
R-Dizzle and Bishop were fun to play against. I knew I shouldn't of agreed to rat race as you guys mentioned it in earlier posts. But at least we will always have the prisoner game ;)
We'll be coming back next month and I can get a lot more people to come probably. Personally I hate 1on1, but another 2v2 tourney would be cool, but we should decide on one map to keep a level playing field. I suggest Hang em' High because it seems to be a pretty balanced map, its big, there are places to hide, ledges, pillars, tunnels etc. Maybe a 4v4 CTF blood gulch tourney? This all stuff to discuss another day so yeah.
Bishop
02-29-2004, 06:17 PM
Fo sho, another 2v2 or 4v4 tournament would be hella tight. It would be cool if the 2v2 had more people and we started it earlier in the LAN so that people didn't leave or get left out lol. Me and R-dizzle only suggested Rat Race because we knew that you and quick draw don't like rocket whores, so it seemed like a good map. Hang em' sounds good too, and definately the gametypes and maps should be voted/selected before it starts, and also if people are interested we would either mix up the teams or put like a 2 dollar entrance fee in and the winners get it all. it always makes it a little more fun if cash is on the line. BG CTF is sooooooo played out, especially on xbc, you should know that. BC CTF is where it's at, oh well, we have a month to argue, see you on the forums.
RawKus
02-29-2004, 06:51 PM
We don't play that much ctf on xbc, because people usually try to get 4 xboxs and the game just lags out. Ctf at BC is just all about flag tossing, 2 guys on base, 1 jumps down throws flag up, go go through portal throws flag up to his buddy on their base and he jumps down and caps it. Blood Gulch there is really no way to get instant caps and what not. Hang em high is also a very good ctf map. Prisoner would be better if they didn't spawn you on the ground all the time, that gets annoying when the flag is uptop. I'm not relaly sure how chillout, ratrace, etc are for ctf, we don't play that much ctf.
Stumanji
02-29-2004, 07:51 PM
The people I play with play by the honor rule: No flag tossing and you must return the flag by going up the ramps (in Hang'em High only). The reason we do it this way is it makes it way more challenging, and the games tend to get intense that way.
R-Dizzle and Bishop were on my team in our BC CTF game, and I knew (and helped with) that tactic you mentioned Rawkus. That's all good in tourney's and cash competitions, but in games for "fun" I think it's a better experience to have bullets whizzin past your head when you're scrambling into the bases... It tends to make your teammates take responsibility for protecting you, y'know?
The people on the Host box during those rockets games (I know them personally) are the type of people that annoy others because they think it's funny (they mean no harm). That's why we did so many rocket matches in a row (can't complain though, I was usually on top in Kills in the Rocket games... ONLY those games ;) ).
We could do a FFA Slayer tourney that started at 16 players. The bottom four are eliminated in each round (So, it's 16, then 12, then 8, then 4 - the winner of that game takes the prize). Something like that might work.
Bishop
03-01-2004, 12:39 AM
FFA tourneys should go down to 1v1's. theres a way to do it that last longer. you get 8 man brackets and the bottom 4 get checks each map. two checks and your out. you wait till there is 4 left in each bracket and then form another 8 man. bottom 4 get checks and two checks and your out again, then the top4 1v1 for the championship. Rawkus is right and stumanji also about the bc strategy. except how would you do that 2 v 2???? and still play defense???? almost any halo enthusiast has seen the TDT vs DM strategy, which works (except sTk beat them) but isn't useful 2v2. i guess you'll have to play us to find out how to do that. I like playing for fun also stu, but to me, the fun part is winning. It is harder to play "honors" like you mentioned, but if i'm playing halo, i'm gonna play it the best way possible and still have fun. if i know carrying the flag one way is more trecherous, my hands wouldn't let me take it that way, even if i wanted. BG CTF TAKES FOREVER. when i showed up, that was what was being played and it seemed never ending. to me thats not really that fun. gettin 100 kills in cTF may look cool, but it takes forever. only nOObs play it, jk. kinda.

Yeah, no kidding. If I had my choice, we would have only played that level once. I got my share of Blood Gulch a long, LONG time ago. When I first got into Halo, it was always BG for everything... The only game on BG that I enjoy anymore is Rally (Race) with Warthogs...

OHHHH okay, i thought you were talking about 4 vs 4 ctf at Battle Creek. 2 vs 2 would be fine at battle creek and would suck at Blood Gulch. I'd say if 2 vs 2 smaller maps like BC, and what not would be best and for 4 vs 4 Blood Gulch would be the best.

maybe me and my brother are noobs actually. We got an xbox sometime in Fall 2002, played halo campaign/split screen multi a little bit, but we didn't start playing lans with friends etc until the end of this summer 2003, we have played off and on since then. Maybe thats why we aren't tired of blood gulch yet. How long have you guys been playing competitive multiplayer halo? We are going to work on our CTF at other maps thats for sure.

I think my most satisfying kill during that Oddball Slappers game on Damnation was when I dropped from the sniper rifle ledge to the overshield and smacked you in the back of the head when you were camping with the sniper rifle!
I gotta say though, your rocket launcher kill was pretty spectacular. Or, should I say Killtacular?

I've only been playing Halo from about the end of 2002/early 2003. i always just played with my group of friends but didn't get better until i teamed up with R dizzle. as a nOOb we never played BG CTF, guess my group of friends missed that memo. I've only recently started to play on xbc and at gameclucks in lynnwood rarely. I will be going to the MLG in Seattle at the end of the summer though, and maybe Halo 50K3 if dizzle needs a nOOb to be the kill bitch with the guardians.

We didn't start playing seriously until some friends of mine from squalicum started talking some trash to me and my friends. So we just got got good at the game pretty quick and then tore them apart. So we just kind of go from there and everyone kind of gets better off of each other. You and r-dizzle should come to a few, keep things interesting and the competition is pretty good for the most part. One guy is only a little worse than my bro, and most are around that area. Hell its beat the lag on xbc, and they are better than the people down r-dizzle's hall lol.

My most satisfying kill in that damnation game was after I was getting the crap shot out of me for a while and I saw a group of 3 guys fighting over the oddball so I said screw it and shot all 3 with a shotgun and took off with it.:)

All I remember is crap stack shooting the crap out of me a number of times. I'd be down to play but my usual Halo buddies might get jealous j/k. We usually play with 8-10 people on the weekends. They are all pretty good (you get good fast playing with A.J.). One of A.J.'s friends is a little worse than me perhaps overall, but we trade off every moment. I have a friend you would be as good as me probably if he played more often, and everyone else is pretty good. Probably better than everyone at the Lan except for myself, A.J., bishop, dizzle, stumanji, and that power kid. If you are craving a 16 player game stumanji we can easily make it happen if we can find a place to accomadate it.

Yeah my name is A.J. and i'm not the "AJ" in "AJ's Tournament" that's r-dizzle's and bishop's friend that happens to have the same name as me. Well actually what probably happened is that they enjoyed getting worked by me so much that they just named the tournament after me. I mean after all it will be AJ's tournament anyway. lol.
