It's almost here...the day we're awaiting with such eagerness our very jaws hurt from the perma grin - :mad: NO I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT HALF LIFE 2. :mad: ;) Though I could have been with the way some of you are about it. ;)

BLE'S 1 year Birthday Bash is upon us! But what does this mean? The write up on the Events Page (http://www.bellinghamlan.com/lan_events) makes some promises - but no details. Have no FeaR? :erm: Uhm...anyway, I'm here to give you some details!

So, what's new this LAN? Not much, other than the ridiculous amounts of prizes we're giving away, the 30 hours of gameplay, the pancake breakfast, the TONS of food, and the fact that we're going to see a huge hole in our pockets after this...er wait, that isn't new. =/ ;)

Here's some quick info:
Where: Pacific Meridian Plaza, 4th floor
When: Starts Friday, Nov 19 at 6:00 p.m. and ends Sunday, Nov 21 at 2:00 am.
How much: $15 Prepay or $20 at the door
How do I sign up? This question is best answered by pointing you to our Master Sticky Thread (http://www.bellinghamlan.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3867). That thread has all the info. Also be sure to check out the Events Page (http://www.bellinghamlan.com/lan_events) (you should end up there sooner or later).

Something new for this LAN! The Grudge Match. You guys are going to love this one. Here's how it works: If at any time during any game being played where more than one person in the LAN is playing, and two people (or more) end a map or match with the same score or rank, they must play a GRUDGE MATCH. :woot: The grudge game will be chosen at random among several different games. As of now the possibilities are: Soul Calibur 2, Mariokart Double Dash, Burnout 3, Mario Power Tennis, Tetrinet2, or good old fashion Rock, Paper, Scissors. There will also likely be some AOL disc tossing, and the air cannon and bb gun challenge's. :rup:
So what's the point of this? Because the winner of the spectacle that is the grudge match will win a prize! The prize will be chosen at random as well. And don't worry if you think that people getting the same score/rank is rare - every game that is Game of the Hour will feature at least 1 or 2 Grudge matches aside from tied gamer kind.

You can download Tetrinet2 at http://www.tetrinet2.com/ and I suggest you do it and learn it and setup your account, because this isn't the only time it will be used. ;)

This LAN also features the return of the BLE Triathalon. While not a true gaming Triathalon in nature (y'know 'cause a real one would involve different game types) this one is still the best in the business. Here's what you can expect in our Triathalon:
1st Game: Tribes Vengeance Rabbit, limit 16 players - top 6 advance
2nd Game: Tetrinet 2 - top 4 advance
3rd Game: OMG MYSTERY GAME THAT WILL BLOW YOU AWAY. Ok, so by the time this happens it won't be a mystery anymore, but it will be fun to watch at any rate. ;)
So now you're asking, WTF WHAT IF MORE THAN 16 PEOPLE WANT TO ENTER in it to start with? :woot: GRUDGE MATCH! :D We will use grudge matches and randomly pair up people to fight for the chance to compete in the BLE Triathalon. The difference with these and regular Grudge matches is that the loser will get the prize (y'know, for consolation) while the winner gets the exciting opportunity of a lifetime! :D

Ok, so aside from that, you will see several other tournaments:
1v1 Starcraft
2v2 CounterStrike: Source
4v4 UT2k4

And to make things fun, we've thrown in a contest that will tickle your funny bone - or at least your teammates. :erm:
Ravenshield 2v2 FFA. :wtf: How does this work you ask??? Pretty simple - there are 2 people per team, and these 2 people will team up in a very literal sense: 1 person will use the mouse for his team, the other will use the keyboard, and together they will battle it out in FFA style with the other teams! :woot: This should provide some good laughs at the very least, and a prize for each member of the winning team!

Pancake breakfast! :woot: As long as you don't mind eating what I cook for you, you'll be happy to have this. :) Also, since this LAN is an all nighter, we know some of you might get burned out on gaming. We have two remedies for you: BUCK UP PARTNER ;) and, uh, BUCK UP PARTNER! :p jk. In the middle of the night I plan on throwing on a movie in the xbox room which will have 5.1 sound going on and the movie on the Projector screen which could give you a break - or if sleep is pulling at you, bring a sleeping pad as we will have several offices set aside for sleeping geek..er I mean LANners. ;)

You might have noticed a bunch of randomness going on - be sure to bring and sign those waiver forms so you can be included! We are going to use those for random drawings and matchups etc so sign 'em and bring 'em! Hint: Look in this thread (http://www.bellinghamlan.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3867) for the waiver. ;)

OK ok so you probably want me to finish this and get on with the schedule right? Ok, I'm on it! One thing to note, many times will have more than one thing going on, so whenever you see something separated by a / that's what that means. Capiche?

hrmm well lets see...Out of the four copies we're giving away only one has been won so far...that leaves three...I suggest you either pray to the LAN gods that you get partnered up with someone good for cs 2v2 or bite the bullet and get the game. It's so much fun you won't regret it...trust me on that one. ;)

why do u have to ruin my argument. but it is true, bad aim can never really over come map knowlage. but if u are against someone that knows a map better then u, and you have better aim, but they guy is decent, it makes it hard.

also, CS is really a team game, so if one team play the map, and the other team has better players but just run around, the team that play the map will win

I've played about an hour's worth of cs, so I can't really comment on it. I will say, however, that the counterstrikers on this forum all have way better aim than the non-counterstrikers, which leads me to believe that aim is a much larger facter than it is in games like UT2k4. The flip side of the coin, though, is I suspect cs doesn't reward movement skills as much as UT. And then you've got something like Tribes, where there's a lot of emphasis on timing.

Map knowledge is important in any game, some more than others. I don't know how cs compares, but, for instance, playing a 1v1 in UT is pointless against someone who knows the map a lot better than you...I've been there many times. :slant:

Well map knowledge/teamwork are a big part of any game. I would say that that is the key factor when there is only a small difference in fragging. However when there is a huge disparity, the better fragger will win everytime (this is dm terms.. not ctf terms) My only consolation is that I have a few hours to learn some important maps, bind my keys, and figure out what the weapons and powerups do. Also, 2v2 teamwork will transfer from ut2004 (stay together, time the powerups, get in 2v1 situations, stay alive, etc.)

Of course not... there are no dodge jumps, wall dodges, wall dodge jumps, shield dodges, shield jumps, shield wall dodges (don't try this at home ;) ) etc. I don't even know if you can dodge (I hope so though) That is the reason that the Unreal Tournament series will always be my favorite game :rolleyes:

"Aiming" in CS is BS ;).

You ever heard of the "random luck" headshot? Counter Strike coined that phrase.

"Aiming" in CS is a matter of controlling a weapon's largely random and unpredictable spray. When using the AK, for instance, if you go full auto it's best to aim at the feet (higher chance of headshots). Soon you'll learn that controlled burst-fire is much more important than aiming in CS. Map knowledge helps too.

You should listen to Ghrog, though, he's better than I am ;)

No other game beside UT has dodging that I'm aware of - though some other games do a 'dive roll' type manouever (like Star Wars Battlefront) which accomplishes the same thing for the most part.

As for ET and q3Gen - I liked ET it's just that I'm a little tired of WW2 stuff. As for Q3Gen - I don't really like q3 that much except for novelty and Gen just made it less fun that it already was imo. Not dissing the mod, but I'd rather play q3 than Generations - just a personal opinion too and not a BLE endorsed opinion. :p I think Dave for one thinks it the best mod in the world and is trying to get id to pay the mod team $50 million each for their work. Not sure how he's coming on that though. As for not liking q3 that much, the last id product I really enjoyed was...hrmm I don't think there was one. ;) I played lots of the original DOOM, but I think I played it more because there was blood in it and I was a teenager that thought it was cool. 8)
