www.coolerguys.com is hiring for tech support.

They're awesome people there, and would be really cool to work for I imagine...not to mention, they're do pretty good business, so they'd be a good long term company to work for imo.

They're looking for someone immediately...if you're looking for a job, I highly recommend calling them immediately.

Ask for "Tim".

I'm not sure how much you keep up with computer nerd stuff, but I would probably recommend doing a little brushup stuff in case they ask you any questions.

Here's just a small cheat sheet of things they may expect you to know.

Socket A (aka 462) = AMD processor socket. Virtually all Athlon processors within recent memory use it. Athlon 64 and Opteron's use Socket 940 and Socket 754, which is the first change in quite some time. Generally cpu heatsinks are for a specific socket and no others, but some high end heatsinks are designed for multiple platforms.

Intels use Socket 478.

Copper is a great heat conductor for heat and make great heatsinks because of it, but it's very heavy and expensive. Aluminum is cheap and light. Some people say aluminum transfers heat a LITTLE better than copper in the air, while copper is no argument better in solid vs. solid contact, but that's more trivia than practical.

Liquid cooling systems are very quiet and effective, but expensive and hard to maintain.

CFM = Cubic Feet per Minute. It's used to tell how much air a fan kicks out. 40CFM is a pretty standard figure for a cpu fan. Normal case fans can go as low as 20CFM or lower. High end cpu fans can get up to 60CFM or higher, but they get very loud.

dBa is decibels level. The quietest fans run around 20dBa. 30dBa is pretty loud for a case fan, for reference points. Every 3 dba is a double of volume...33dBa is twice the volume of 30dBa.

Computer fans are almost always 80mm, which is 80mm from side to side. It's not like crt's that are measured diagonally. 120mm fans are huge.

That's about all I can think of for things they might expect you to know at this stage in the game. Hopefully I haven't insulted your intelligence or scared you. ;)

Might be good to know how much amperage a fan uses. This would be imperative when setting up a system with many fans. Don't want to steal power that is neccessary for computing.

Good to know operating temperatures. What's optimal, what is hazardous, and what is dangerous.

Good to know what can/should be cooled; processor, northbridge, graphics card, and ram.

Also, this goes for everyone on the forums.

The 412i company, which is the owner of the floor where we hold our LAN parties, is accepting resumes for Sales and Tech Support positions.

They do most their business primarily on the Internet so check out their website at www.412i.com (I think that's it, !ghrog can confirm for sure) for more information on what they do - which would be a must if your thinking of the sales position.

The Tech support position would start out as contract work on a part time basis with the possibility of moving to full time if it becomes a mutually beneficial relationship. ;) The Tech Support would include Help Desk, Network support and Administration, and web design and maintenance.

If you're interested, drop off your resume at the front desk sometime during business hours (8-5 m-f) or fax it to them, but you'll have to look up that number somewhere else. :)

Interview went good. But someone else got the job. I don't think they could understand that someone would be willing to drive more than a couple miles to work. Even though I have comuted farther than that before.
