View Full Version : The issue of Spamming

First off I do not mean to offend and I do not mean to be the new guy who tries to change everything without first understanding whats going on.
But I personally would like to address the issue of spamming. On almost all other boards there are Anti-Spam rules in place and I feel this forum would be more professional and more user freindly if we too put spam rules in place. I personally find spam really irratating, when I'm really busy and I want to check the boards real quick I don't want to have to wade through 50% spam to find content. I don't know if this is just me, but I think that perhaps we should consider stopping the spam.
Again, this is just my opinion stated to you.

As in aristole's view of moral virtue one must always strive for the mean while avoiding excess or deficiency. A continuum of possible levels for spam exist and it is not the elimination of the continuum completely that generates a happy and productive forum but instead an unspoken communal agreement as to what approximate point on the continuum the group should aim for.
Be to conservative and conversation suffocates, be to liberal and chaotic boring posts ensue.
Essentially, When i post, it is always the exact and perfect between excess and difficiency

Bazie: You dirty cheating rat, I hate you...you can find all your clothes and crap tossed outside my front door, we're finished.
As for the issue of Spamming, you've probably noticed we've created some new forums in an attempt to make things easier to filter through.
How many others out there are concerned about the level of spam here?

and I feel nothing but love and flowing anticipation for the "next time" for you too:)
Incidentally, is the community section not labled "...and super sized spam"?

I am, the upwelling of spam has made me hesitant to join into the casual banter that was once this forums normalicy. Its smart, yet not outwardly showy occupents appeared to ponder deeply on the meanings of there posts before posting, so others could inrich there lives with the knowledge gleaned from another individuals life.
This is possibly what is wrong with todays society. And its almost ironic that this countrys degridation is being caused by its one strength. Freedom of speech, the freedom to act. There are so many differeing opinions in todays world that to feel like you fit you must accept all viewpoints even if it is split in a 40%, 40% 20% movemnt, you do not wish to be left to a small group, nay less then half the population. You dont wish to be grouped in a way that is going to force you to a viewpoint. And with this open minded following of everything comes the degridation of our society. From being a horrible act it becomes grey then it becomes a normal piece of life.
While I do feel that a forum should dig back to its roots and be a place where people migrate to when they want to share and exchange thoughts and questions friendly banter should be accepted in the approriate places.
Amagine being back in Plato's day, if you were seeking to question your reality to garner knowledge you would come forward, while others that maybe wished to enjoy a snippets would stay farther back so they would not disturb the others. Though if everyone croweded to the teachings of Plato not all could hear because of the hum of thought.
What I am saying is that I know nothing of what I say just as you know little of what I said or you read so overall we are all no dumber for reading this I hope unless you actually mulled it over in which case I kept you reading and since time is money your now poorer for reading this. Either way you have lost out and I know spit in your face.

Perhaps a sub forum for Spam, just so people who don't have time can skip over that.

Spam is spontaneous. It’s like the common cold. You can’t control where it will come from. And science has yet to find a cure.
I myself enjoy it here. No rules lawyers telling me to dot my I's or cross my T's...DAMN YOU, FOR STARTING A SENTENCE WITH A CONJUNCTION! YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO DO THAT, YOU KNOW!!1!111 Well maybe a little of that. But it gives me something to read and look forward to when I come here. I would be bored if it only took me 5 minutes a day to read all the posts here.
I think of it like a real life conversation. Does everything you say to someone have to be the most awe-inspiring thought of a lifetime? I don't think so. I like to throw an occasional F%$# you into a conversation. Or randomly toss the middle finger at a buddy. Spam is like that. Friendly banter between friends.
And just like real life you don’t need to organize your topics too much. "I'll give you 10 minutes to talk about twidgets. Then we have to talk about widgets. But keep on topic now, or I will delete your comments about pogo sticks." Bah! Just go with the flow. You don't have to read every post on the board anyway.
That’s my 2 1/2 cents worth.

While I don't totally care for it, I can deal with it.
I will say that I was incredibly shocked to be gone for 5 hours, only to find something like 282 new posts.

Well he does have point. This forum has exploded in the past few days. I go away for a couple hours and come back to over 100 posts to sift through. Esp as an admin where I have to make sure no question goes unanswered and any bad behavior is dealt with, it can be tough.
That is why there are extra forums. Do your best to keep what's relevant to the forum that it belongs in. BLE Central is pretty much the spam forum cause that's really where there is no point but to talk.
There's a games review forum for game talk, a console forum for console talk, hardware, feedback, etc. Pre party forums and past party forums. It's all there. Just try to use them as they should be. Spam is okay cause it is interesting, but too much can be a headache to moderate. ;) Let's try and keep in in BLE Central until further notice. :)

nice post Foe Of Dirk:up: You still have much to learn, in the ways of bullshit, but very highly pure quality nonetheless:up:
Oh and yeah, there is a fine line between conversation and spam. The former been good, the second only fun. And as we all know, fun != good. At least, thats what formal education has taught us:erm:
