In preparation for BLE's November surprise, the admins had previously decided not to hold an even for October. After September LAN however, they quickly knew they couldn't go without an October LAN, but were perplexed at how they could do it without sacrificing anything for the November Surprise. The newest addition to BLE's administration crew, Ghrog, had the answer: a $5 LAN.
With that we ran (lol well sort of) a LAN party that only cost patrons $5 - which basically only covered the cost of the room. BLE didn't provide any of the normal staples such as food, drinks (actually they did provide some of these), pizza, and prizes (again, there were a few prizes handed out as well...can anyone say 3 copies of T:V?) Instead of the usual BLE Admins running around like chickens with their heads cut off all during the event and having crazy activities and contests/tournaments, the Admins were just like the patrons, playing games with everyone else.
The LAN was a lot of fun in retrospect. Owning everyone in new games such as Star Wars Battlefront and Tribes Vengeance was priceless...:erm: umm, wait, that would be everyone owning ME in said games. At least I haven't lost my touch in UT2k4! Except that FeaR and SpamTastik have been practicing, causing me much death, pain, and suffering.:mad:
Another aspect of this LAN that was a fun addition was the times. Going from 6 pm Friday night to 8 am Saturday night proved interesting. Most interesting in fact was the kind of really weird things we were there to witness, such as but not limited to: Someone (bluefire?) and his girlfriend in the parking lot making out in their car getting raided by about 10 or so BLE-ers; Chuwuwah falling asleep in his chair, head cocked back and mouth wide open ready for a nice midnight snack ;); and watching the eyes of the Denny's waitress that sat us when we told her how many people we would have sitting at our table. :) Good times. :D :woot:
As for prizes, 3 copies of T:V were given out - 1 to FeaR, 1 to Thanatos (our FeaR catch phrase contest winner), and 1 to psychotic strike. Excessive also went home with a copy of Leisure suit Larry and a demo of playboy mansion.
All in all I'd say it was a success! We had around 25-26 people in all show up and game it all night.
Pros: All of the above
Cons: Since the Admins wanted to play more than run the LAN we suffered two power outages. Only halted CS so it's no big deal. ;)
ggs peoples! See you at our November Surprise! ;)
ok, so I'll announce that here as well. :) But not too many details. ;)
BLE is proud to say that the 'Experiment' is a success! To attend a LAN now is an 'Experience' wouldn't you say? Proof of our success: We've been holding LANs in Bellingham now for 1 year, and every LAN has only gotten better and stronger. Since the season of giving is coinciding with our 1 year anniversary, we're having a 1 year anniversary party that you will not forget!
Date: November 20-21
Times: A 30 hour LAN, running from 10 am on the 20th to 4 pm on the 21st (tentative planning - times may change slightly, most likely to a 26 or 24 hour event)
Place: You know the place...the 412i - except we're expanding to 50 seats for this shindig! :woot:
As for the season of giving part - we're going to have Prizes coming out our arses to give away for this event. And food, and drinks, and...PIZZA! Yeah baby! Tournaments? Contests? Oh yeah, BLE's infamous Triathalon will be making a return as well as several other tournaments and contests - some of which will be chosen by you!
So prepare yeselves! This event will shine until the end of time! :woot:
