...to holding on to games that I don't play and don't really plan on playing. Case in point: Starcraft and bw - not played since April of 2002, SoFII - not played since September of 2002, Warcraft II bnet edition - not played since Winter of 2001, Far Cry, not played since April LAN and HALO only played at the last LAn and a couple of random times online.

I liked all these games and had fun playing them and all, but I don't play them often at ALL, and don't really plan on playing them very much. So I'm going out of my comfort zone and trading them in. This also means that I'm not going to be trying very hard to get any of those played at a lan 'cause I wouldn't be able to play. ;)

Just FYI...anyone else have a tough time parting with old things?

If parting is such sweet sorrow, I could ease the pain by keeping them for you. ;) :sly:

It never even occurs to me to get rid of my old games. Same thing with books. I have about 3 huge boxes worth of books gathering dust in my mom's attic.

I have a few games that I haven't played in long time. Like....Nox and Flight Sim 98 and Diablo and Janes Fighter Plane pack.

Books have re-read value. In time, some of the old games I have won't even be re-playable unless I keep an old computer hanging around...which I can't see doing unless I'm really feeling nostalgic or something. But not only that, I don't have the time to play the games I want to play, much less those I have that I don't really want to play anymore. Books have a much higher value, they're more than just entertainment.

I still play Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2, even though I've beaten BG twice and BG2 (plus the expansion) three times. I got through Knights of the Old Repulic once and I very much doubt I'll play it again. It just feels dumbed down compared to the BG series, and when I play it I'm sitting there thinking about how I could be having a more strategic, complex experience. :p The ONLY thing that's really gotten better in the last two or three years is graphics. And imho, the need to be on the cutting technological edge and make a game with incredibly detailed graphics has forced developers to move resources away from things like story and gameplay. There are, of course, exceptions.

LOTR 2 was a great game...I've been wanting to check out lotr 3 actually...but the problem isn't that the game is good or that I don't want to play it. Especially with that type of game - being turned based strategy, you're talking hours to play it. That's a lot of hours of fun to be sure, but they need to be pretty consistant, and I just don't have time for games like that anymore. :( It's worth money to other people, and to places like eb, and since I can't use them now and don't plan to, I would rather have the money I guess...or get something new. That's the redeeming virtue of fps games...you only need a half hour to go play for a bit. It's fun to play for a long time, but it's not like a turn based strat game where after a half hour you're just getting started...in a fps you start rather abruptly. :)

I still have shogo, anyone here ever play that? I also have my old quake 1&2 discs. (someone even suggested playing quake 2 at the last lan) I was thinking about loading all my old game onto my kids computer just for "vintage" fun. at the rate machines are going most things are becoming unplayable, I tend to save my old machine parts and make franken-puters outta them just to entertain myself on rainy days.

It's weird I was reading somthing a while back about how the library of congress was having problems with all their data backups being potentially un-readable because hardware technology is moving upward too rapidly.
