So... since I did a fresh install of XP I didn't get all the bundled software. Good and bad to that. Bad being no DVD decoder or burning software.

I downloaded a trial version of DirectDVD. Nice controls and features.. not worth $50 though. The demo version works for only 30 days and allows you to play a DVD for only 5 minutes.... Funny thing, when WMV accesses the files(it can't decode DVD on it's own) it will play the whole movie(no 5 minute limit). So my quesion is, will WMV stop playing DVD's after the 30 day trial limit?? :dunno:

As far as burning goes.... I was again going to use WM, but it wanted to take 20 minutes to burn a CD. That is horrible!!(I have a 16x burner). Any free programs that are worth the download?

Well, I just tried DeepBurner(www.download.com), and it seems to work as it says. Only took me 6 minutes to burn a CD.

I've got about 50 copies of PowerDVD. They seem to bundle it with EVERYTHING. You can have one if you want.

Does it support Dobly Digital 5.1? I remember one of the cheap players I had didn't have 5.1 support.

so you need free software for everything or just dvd? If you need all you can get free I'd hit this place.

Star Office 6.0 (http://wwws.sun.com/software/star/staroffice/6.0/) Free to students. Basicly a office suite compatible with MS office.

Open office is open source and it says its copatable with MS office. I found out its not as compatable as they say. I havent tried Staroffice yet. Does the formating stay the same between staroffice and MS office when you open .doc files in each?

I've got Office 2000 Pro. I just need DVD. I found out that the player that I downloaded doesn't support 5.1 in it's trial format. :(
