I saw this while looking for information on this game.

"Taking a cue from Apocalypse Now, EA has licensed 17 tracks for Battlefield Vietnam. These are all authentic songs from the era (well, except for the Wagner, of course, which predates it), and when you hop into a helicopter you can blare music, allowing players in the field to hear the music coming towards them as you swoop down from above. So if you and your teammates want to reenact the infamous "Ride of the Valkyries" sequence from Apocalypse Now, you can do so. .... there's some great music here, including Credence Clearwater Revival, The Kinks and Jefferson Airplane, plus the aforementioned Wagner piece (performed by the Budapest Symphony)."

Now if I can just learn how to fly a helicopter for more than 100 feet.

Yea it is. Ever since I say the preview clips (http://www.eagames.com/official/battlefield/vietnam/us/home.jsp) of the game I have been trying to learn to fly helicopters. But right now it would be a sorry SOB who let me carry them in a tank under my chopper.

Your flight time is 45 ft longer than mine. And I have to assume there are NOT too many tanks in BF Vietnam....so break out the red paint. And just call me Target. And to think that I really want to play this game. Oh, well I guess you're right. I have to learn to fly Helos or atleast shoot a gun from one. Da mn mov i ng tar get !

So whats the secret? Use mouse, or just keyboard? what do you do when it starts getting out of control? I have to hit the "E" key. :)

How do you turn without getting out of control? (Turning over sideways and exploding on impact.)

What game are you playing that has Helo's?

Control wise I've found a mouse keyboard combo to work best. You use your mouse for leaning your Helo, and your keyboard for tail rotor, and collective (making your helo go up/down).

First you need to get an idea of how a helo works. In real life a helo has a collective, throttle, cyclic, and rudder (for rear rotor). The rear rotor counterbalances the rotation of the blade which keeps the helo from spinning out of control (see Black Hawk Down). In the game you have a collective/throttle cyclic, and rudder.

What you want to do is start by pressing the rudder in the direction you want to go then move the mouse to make your nose come up while moving your mouse to the left. Do this in a slow movement, and remember underreacting is better then overreaction.

If you want to get on teamspeak and play some DC on an empty server I can give you flying lessons.

Flying lessons? Sounds expensive. Do we have to go through Flight School and all? Or can we just jump in, Fire her up and blow up ? Oh, wait...thgat's what I do now. No, really sounds great I do need to learn. I have the basics down, but do need some pointers on turnig in a hover and actually hitting what I aim at. ;)
