Has anyone paid for a premium download site like file front, or gamespy? I am getting a little frustrated when I try to find a fast download site for large patches and demos. Today I am downloading DC v7. So far the best downlaod I have found is going to take me 18 hours.
If you have tried one of these paid services have they been worth it? do they cut your download times in half? or are they just a big rip off?

no i usually either log into gamespy at 2 in the morning or find elsewhere to download it and get 100kbps downlaods. BTW .7 is 1337! I loved the update!

am trying to set up an FTP serv for patches, demos, and funnesses like pictures, videos, and audio; all free with the ability to upload cool stuff on to it (like a rad old skool Supermario Bros 1 vide0) for others viewing pleasure. (no porn or else: B&!)
but alas, this won't be up until after the Feb LAN :(

I broke down a paid for file planet because they have a good selection and I usually end up there. Here is a screenshot of my performance for the galactic conquest download. I am on DSL so it might even be higher with cable Internet. This is not normal. Usually it’s about 100Kbs. I think they beefed up this server in anticipation of this release but I am not sure.

BLE is hoping to have our own ftp server, that we'll load up with as much as our brand new 160gigabyte hard drive will let us.
We should easily have that up by the time of March LAN...it'll be exclusive to BLE only.

it depends on what I need but I have places to get stuff. If its a patch or demo usually www.download.com has good speeds. Often maxing out my download of 160kbps. I just tried 0.7 and it was a stable 80kbps but thats not horribly good. Heavy traffic probably.
For certain games I have sites like raven shield I always get from http://www.3dgamers.com/games/rainbowsix3/

www.filerush.com or www.3dgamers.com both usually have fast torrents of the latest patches and mods, they've never let me down and never asked for my money.

I checked filerush and 3dgamers out. I don't think either has the large selection of files that fileplanet has. 3dgamers bombarded me with pop ups and pop unders. filerush had a download link that I tried and it was downloading at a blazing 30Kbs.
After going through the hassle of trying to find good download speeds for the files I want, when I want them. I decided that $6 or $7 a month is worth it to me. I never get server full messages and I always get at least 70Kbs speed. And on good days I get the speeds you see above.
I understand that others may never want to pay to download. Or cannot afford to. But right now my budget allows it and I am happy with the service I am getting.

I feel dumb. I still enjoy the service I am paying for. But I just realized my settings got changed and the speeds above are in Kb/s (bits) not KB/s (Bytes). one Byte is 8 bits. ;)

/me shrugs.
Feel free, it's your money. BitTorrent is the best thing to ever happen to the internet, however.
