[Sung to the theme of Gilligan's Island] (http://www.bellinghamlan.com/DiscoDave/gilligan.mp3)
Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
A tale of a fateful hike
That started from this modest forum
A hike that wasn't well liked.
The lead was a mighty hiking man,
The skipper brave and not Ben.
Six hikers all in all, there were
Plus two mini-men, plus two mini-men.
The hike started well enough
The caves were well explored,
Lunchtime was well enjoyed by all
With danger near by, with danger near by.
While our explorers did their exploring thing on top of the bat caves
With Deezee,
Thanatos and Pine,
Endeeer, and his wife,
DiscoDave,
M4lfunction and Shannon,
Here atop the bat caves.
So this is the tale of Thanatos' knee,
That twisted really really bad,
On a lower ledge below some rocks,
Making him real sad.
First they tried to pull him up,
but Disco lost the rope,
Even after it was found,
All they could do was mope
Some phone, no water, only Pine's cheese
Not a single luxury,
Baking in the summer sun,
We fed lots of flies and bees.
It was dusk by the time a crew made it up,
And carried him off the rocks,
But the injury doesn't seem too serious,
It shouldn't be long before Than walks.
---
No walking sticks were harmed during the writing of this song. ;)
M4lfunction's got a nice recap in the previous news post's thread, and I don't really have a whole lot to add. We don't know for sure what went wrong with Thanatos' knee or how serious it is, but it appeared to be getting better as the night went on so I'll be surprised if it's anything "seriously serious".
It was kinda cool to see around 25 people and two horses all marching up this hill trying to help out. The people that were there longest from a volenteer fire department, get a grand total of $10 for the four hours they spent up there...a whopping $2.50 per hour of hard, hot labor. It was inspiring to see a band of strangers working together to help someone they've never met without getting anything of significance in return. They even brought two horses up the trail, which is pretty effing impressive by itself.
Thanks to M4l, Pine, and Shannon...and a special thanks to the crew of people who, while they'll never read this, worked their asses off to bail us out.

Would it have been different? Or is our fate predetermined?

I think we can all agree that decisions we make affect the outcome. ;)

Of course it would have been different - FeaR would have been there. That would have made the situation different than it was because he was not present making it not the same.

Not to change the subject from Ender's philosophizerizing, but I just got a call in from Thanatos' mum.
He had a broken Tibia (aka, the main bone of the leg below the knee). He had surgery today, and had some stuff "bolted back into place". Apparently the surgery went well, and he'll be on crutches for the next month or so, and he likely won't be at full strength for another 8 weeks.
He's expected to get back home from the hospital tomorrow.

Good and bad news...
Good to hear that he'll be back tomorrow, but bad to hear he broke something!
I hope (as does all of BLE I'm sure) he gets well soon.

I'm going to go visit him then.
Better yet, I'll try and have a small lan at my place and whoever wants to visit after the lan can come with, it's a mile drive from my place.

Breaks are good. Torn muscles, blown knees, all those take forever to heal. Not to mention a blown knee would always bother him for the rest of his life. A broken leg will heal completely and won't bother him again.

Just because there are things worse than breaks doesn't mean breaks are "good". Having bolts in your leg certainly aren't what I'd call "good".

Wow, I didn't realize it was that serious. Not to be...rude, or anything, but is BLE gonna have to take the blame for this?

From a legal standpoint, no way, for many different reasons.
From a "You bastards let my son break his leg", sure. Fortunately, however, his mum seems like a very nice person and expressed nothing but gratitude for what we did with the situation.

Well that's good. But I hope his insurance covers it... that would suck if his family had to foot the whole bill. :(

I think he's just saying that's it's 'good' in comparison to what could have happened that would have been worse.
In that light, I was it was good as well. But a sprain would be better than a break. ;)

Yep that's what I meant. And I completely agree. A sprain would be better.

Since he wont be able to work for the next 2-3 months, how is he going to make payments on his new SUV?
