Here's news I bet at least ONE member here would be interested in. ;)

Ender's Game
"Warner Bros. and director Wolfgang Petersen ("Troy") have set scribes Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty ("X2") to adapt the Orson Scott Card books "Ender's Game" and "Ender's Shadow" into a film Petersen will direct. Petersen sparked to the bestselling books because he wanted to make a young adult fantasy -- terrain he hasn't covered since "The Neverending Story"..." (more info).

The story takes place on
Earth in the future. Earth has been attacked
twice by an alien species called Buggers, nearly
destroying the human race. Mankind begins training
young geniuses to become soldiers and commanders
to fight in Earth's defence if the Buggers should
ever attack again. Ender is extremely intelligent,
and at the age of six years old, he goes to Battle
School to be trained. Ender quickly rises to the
top in Battle School and begins training in order
to command Earth's fleet.

Fight those Buggers Ender :D lol

This movie will be a let down to anyone who has read the book. Thats my opinion. This was one of the best books I ever read because of what went on in the characters heads. Movies never capture that. It wont be able to tell you why Ender does the things he did. and many important things will have to get left out.

Batlefield Earth was an awesome book. But the movie floped. You didn't know what the characters were thinking and didn't understand wht things were done the way there were. The book explained all that.

I might just be me but I have never seen a movie that was better than the book.

I'm inclined to agree...Ender's Game is very much an internal story. It's easy to make a movie about a huge war with a kid providing the military genius, but it's virtually impossible to really go inside the head of Ender, which is where the story really is.

Very true, but I've never had been able to compare books and movies either. I came close with Lotr...I had some problems with TTT that really made a sour effect with me not because it wasn't in line with the book, but because it seemed opposite. The Ext Version fixed part of it, but not all.

But that's really the only movie that suffered any criticism from me in that regard. Generally, I see them as totally different, and I can really appreciate a lot of movies from books because the movie can always show something the book didn't do so hot on. E.G. FotR - the death of Boromir is about the awesomest thing ever. Saddest too, but the book really lacked on that scene and all that happened there I felt. The movie made up for it and in a huge way.

Ender's Game is one of my all time favorite books (as I'm sure you can tell) and while the story is about Ender and the internal stuff, I feel the movie will give a lot of the other stuff a chance that may have been snubbed a tad in the book. This will not please fans, but it will please me. Cause luckily, I see them as different. :)

Hmm, take out the six years old part.. and this sounds like Starship Troopers... Hopefully it won't be a flop like ST.

Regardless...I will see this. Just the simulated battles with being able to "freeze" people and use them as shields, "vehicles" etc. could be worth the price of admission. GREAT BOOK!

IGN Movies talked with author Orson Scott Card yesterday and he confirmed that the big-screen version of his novel Ender's Game has been put into turnaround at Warner Bros. Pictures.

Card calls the move "a good thing" as it opens up the project to be shopped to other studios. Card is now the sole screenwriter on the project and claims to "never personally read the other scripts" that were done by numerous scribes including David Benioff and Dan Weiss.

Producers are said to be "very happy" with the current draft which incorporates elements from both Ender's Game and Card's subsequent book, Ender's Shadow.

There's talk that producers Chartoff Productions and Fresco Pictures may try to raise funding independently and says that until financing is secured, a director cannot be hired. Thus talk of Wolfgang Petersen or Ridley Scott directing is just talk at the moment.

*sigh*

I dunno. Fight Club is hugely an internal story, but the movie was every bit as awesome as the book IMO. It can work, it's just rare.

I REALLY hope they don't completely fuck this up if/when it gets made. Ender's Game is still my favorite book and I would be depressed to see it turned into a very poor movie.

After the fucking mistake that was "The Hitchhiker's Guide" I'm skeptical about book to film adaptations but since I've never read "Ender's Game" I couldn't care less about this one.

Also, Ender is a big fag. Like Excessive, only not quite as faggish. He's a way bigger fag. I mean, Elton John would be like "Whoa, Excessive, you're a pretty big fag!" and that's saying something!

Wow. Its been a month since I last posted and I see nothing has changed. Scumdog, I don't find your jabs at me humorous at all. The fact that you are allowed to post here at all still confuses me. Giving me Neg rep every time I post with nasty messages is a bit immature. I have no idea what your problem is. But untill you finaly piss off enough people to get the real boot from this forum I'll continue to stay away. You win.

P.S. Neg rep for being a cry baby!!!! You thought it was funny with your Wii-hate trolling posts, so have a taste of some Excessive-hate trolling. Fag.

Lol owned. They better not screw up this movie. I'm still going to see it even if it is though. I've read the entire series, and after I finish Les Misrables I might read it again. Le Mis is 1500 pages though, so it'll be a while X_X

Wolfgang Petersen ("Air Force One," "Troy," "The Perfect Storm") is no longer attached to direct "Ender's Game" reports io9.com.

An adaptation of Orson Scott Card's acclaimed sci-fi novel about a child super soldier who plays a long simulation of Earth's fight against the 'bugger' race of alien insects. As the 'game' wears on, he begins to lose his sanity and makes a final and devastating decision that has real world consequences.

No word as to why he's left the project, but Chartoff Productions is said to be busy meeting with a slew of potential directors to replace him for a shoot starting in early 2009.

Author Card has apparently finished a draft of the script and is "already working to make it even better."
