I'm building a computer for someone, and I'm wondering what CPU to get, in particular about the Athlon 64 series.
Should I get like an Athlon 64 3200+, P4 3.4 ghz (not extreme edition way too much $$$), or a standard 3400+. Also how much better is the FX-51 than say the 64 3200+?
So basically which CPU should I get excluding the FX-53 and the Extreme Edition P4's. Possibly excluding the FX-51 as it is pretty expensive as well.

The FX-51 is not much better than the 64bit 3200+ at all. 10% faster, 2x as expensive. (Numbers pulled out of my ass, but they shouldn't be TOO far off).
I haven't looked at prices, but in general $200 seems to be the sweet spot for cpus. Note that you'll need registered memory if you get the 64bit AMD.
