BLE|Admin

This poll is just to sort of gauge response. As BLE's TRUE Admin I will be the first to tell you that the other Admin's here (*cough* Disque, Endork *cough*) will likely do whatever they like regardless of what you say or think with these LANs. However, judging by the fact that every LAN seems to be a success they are a little high on themselves and feel they can do no wrong. Perhaps they're right.

But regardless...these poor two Admins are getting weary, these big grand BLE LAN productions are starting to stress them uneedfully - notice Endork's physical trauma last LAN? So I've overheard them talking about some changes that may come into effect once the LANs get going again. Keep in mind that these may not actually happen, nor will anything you have to say effect whether or not they happen. But as that one TRUE Admin here at BLE, I thought that we all deserved to know your opinions on the matter.

So here's the skinny:
Starting with October LAN - the next LAN to be held in the 412i - the BLE LANs are going to take a much more informal...casual if you will...approach. This means that each game will get more time as Game of the Hour (don't worry prizes are still going to be given out for Game of the Hours) and that there will be less tournaments. If there are any tournaments, then they will be very similar to how they were at the June LAN, where you're all playing and then wham! a tournament's just started. The exception to that last LAN was the rvs 2v2 tourny, but that was a once in a lifetime deal that will not be repeated again, no matter how much people liked it. This means, overall, that from 10 am to 2 am the next day there will be a game of the hour for every hour. This way we will be able to accomodate all the many games that everyone likes to play and hopefully get you all to play the game of the hour. I promise that even CS will get its spotlight so long it's not intruding in any other Game's spotlight. ;) If there is a tournament, then it will be during that game's specified hour. If no tourny takes place, then that game won't have a tourny. No worries about our usual BLE antics though (ie air cannon, RC Cars, nerf gun, bb gun). We'll still be using those, though maybe not in such frequency as before.

With that, ask away, and state away your opinions about such changes. This really is just a small LAN after all and such big productions can drain the life of the poor admins rather quickly. They like to play too. ;) And this way, we'll all hopefully get to play more games together. :rup:

*edit* These changes won't have any bearing on prizes...we'll still be spending the same amount on prizes that we do every month.

Sounds OK. Although more prizes should be given out to the #1 slot of the game of the hour then. Also, when are you going to give out big prizes if there are no tournaments?

I kind of like that the prizes dont go to the top person everytime. Gives those of us who only specialize in a few games a chance at some of the other games.

I'm sure we'll still give out the big prizes now and again...but they'll prolly be more in the way of random drawings or rock, paper, scissors type contests. Or maybe we'll give something cool to whoever can eat the most habenero's in 10 minutes or something...with no liquid. :p But we'll still do them, maybe a RC car race or something. No worries, we'll still give them away.

As for the #1 spot...we do that now and again, but not always, 'cause like phoenix said, it's lame when the same person gets the cool prize every LAN. We'll try and mix it up a bunch - maybe have to give away a TON of prizes during BF so that people play more of it or something.

I LOVE the rock paper siscors thing! I won a mousepad! Which i am really enjoying btw. And about the chages, im all for it. More relaxed admins = happy admins and happy admins = more prizes that will be randomly given out! I like random giveaways.

As long as there's a LAN every month (where's the love for July, seriously) I'm on board.

I think the LANs have got a bit too formal. I would like to see more time where people play what they want to. ANd yes I know that we can do that now. But if you guys cut loose a bit and just game with the rest of us more, instead of trying to get people to play the same game at the same time, it would make it easier for you. you could also go back to the drawings during dinner for prizes. That would take even more off your shoulders so you wouldn't have to stop after every game to give out a prize.

I am sure you guys know that some of the best parties in life just happen. And some of the parties that are planed to every detail, die early, or just plain suck.

Well thats my opinion, You did ask for it. ;)

yes good point excessive. There was a point that we tried too hard to get everyone in the same game. Prizes seemed like a good way to motivate peoples. March LAN was the last LAN before we instituted the Game of the Hour - and that was due to the fact that that LAN just, well, didn't happen. There were like 4 people in any one game, and several more just sitting there.

Any ideas as to how we can all play the same thing at the same time? It's what make going to a LAN worth it - so much more fun imo. The first LANs I went to we all played the same game together - it's what got me addicted to LANning. I just want to do something to recreate that. 'Cause it pains me to see 4 games going on at the same time - I think to myself, "eh, we could have all stayed home and saved $20."

We're open to suggestions. Though we'll prolly not do the random drawings at dinner - it's just so much easier to throw stuff at you guys. ;)

As for the getting people to play the same game, I have no idea. You cant really force people to play a game. I noticed that once a good sized group of people started playing 2k4, the community got bigger and bigger. But then again, the lan wouldent be fun if we just played 2k4. So i dunno. I guess let people play what they want, and every once in a while just yell out "ok the rvs, 2k4, and bf:v servers are up!" And hopefully people who want to play something will go to that server and they can get a game going. But then again, that would turn into what you said march lan was like. Everyone playing a different game. So, I dunno. I dont really have any good ideas. Hopefully some smart person will post here and will have a good one.

Sorry :(

Alright back on topic.

I noticed at the May Lan that when it came time to try and get ppl in the same game. Too many ppl still had to install it and what not. By the time everyone that wanted to play installed it No one was playing it anymore.

Probably set a time for some of the big games and announce it a 1/2 hour before u plan to start or some thing. Just an idea.

FYI I deleted all non topic related posts. It's okay to hijack nearly all threads on this forum, but some it is not allowed, and this is one of them.

I think next LAN we may try something that we did once - we printed a server schedule. It had a spreadsheet looking table with all the times on the left side (on the hours) and the servers along the top. Then we listed what games would be served when etc so you knew when you could play whichever game on a dedicated server.

How's that sound?

I like it. I also like rvs. Make sure you get the RvS servers up. Very important.

Yeah for sure - but that damn game...I wish ubi would patch it so that it never had any network playing issues again. Our next LAN (if all goes as planned) will be without internet access as far as I'm aware, and that game usually gives hella problems when it's not able to contact the master server. I'm going to have to appoint a rvs fixor person to take care of all the problems that are likely to arise, because I'll be too busy doing others stuffs.

My emotions are so torn!

On the one hand, I'm disappointed for the Enduh! :(

On the other, I'm excited for a July LAN! :)

What's a Deezee to do!?

::EDIT:: If you don't mind me asking, what happened to the trip anyway?

Ender

Well I don't know anything for sure yet...to be honest, if I end up not going then the LAN will be REALLY spontaneous. ;) It's just a question of money. :( The trip I mean - it depends on money, and I just don't know if I'll have enough yet. :(

Oh, and so this post doesnt get deleted (need custom title sometime) One problem was that GoH's started and people wern't ready with patches, installs, configs, etc. announcing it 30 mins early with IP for practice server would be GOOD:hump:
