Logical fallacy Deezee. You're fired! Heck you're even on debate team! Jebes FIRED!

False Analogy! "The two objects or events being compared are relevantly dissimilar." FIRED!

Actualy I think he is refering to the fact that night knows almost nothing about computers and asks many questions about things that could be looked up in a 30 second google search. Yet that same person is telling others what software is good and bad. his opinion is based on what? His superior knowledge of computers?

But Knight is right this time. AVG does suck. and Adaware is a prety good program for all but the most privacy parinoid PC users.

He's not that stupid, geez. He knows quite a bit about computers, just not in certain areas. We all have our areas of expertise.

You've just perfectly described the False Analogy fallacy. lol :P Just because he sucks at networking doesn't mean his input on anti-virus is so terrible (and computers in general) is totally worthless, that would be a hasty generalization now wouldn't it? As a matter of fact, I'd imagine for what he lacks in networking, he would need to cover his ass with a greater understanding of virus scanning :>

But you're probably right anyway :) Just trying to flex my philosophy class knowledge :P

You assume too much. My information and assumption was based on many threads, including Antivirus related questions. If I must dig up an old thread for you I will.

I need help getting rid of a virus (http://www.bellinghamlan.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1027)

Edit: And I'm not calling Night Stupid. I'll admit I have a lot to learn, and I have a computer related Degree.

Indeed, keep in mind that we all have nasty PC problems sometimes, and most of us don't have the training that you have had ;)

Wow.. I didnt see this thread until now. I didnt know so many people hated me.

Im not saying i know a TON about computers, but excessive, that thread you psoted was of me now knowing how to get rid of that virus. AVG didnt work. I posted that thread, and then started trying things on my own and recearching. I didnt just post that helplessly and stare at the screen until somone replied.

And about the router.... on my network at home we have never messed with our router. It has always worked fine. Me not knowing how to turn on port forwarding is not becasue of lack of knowledge and me bieng "dumb". It is simply because of lack of experience. As with the virus I had. I had never encounterd a virus that a virus program cant remove the virus some way or another, and I have never had to mess with my router either.

I dont think it was right for you guys to call me dumb and just assuming that I know nothing about computers because of a few threads I posted because I didnt have experience in the field.

Oh and by the way I would like to say thank you to Homeslice for defending me. That was cool of you and you do speak the truth.

Whoa, I didn't see this thread until today (I've been away hanging out with friends and such, it is the summer after all). I'm REALLY sorry that my off-hand remark started this whole thing, and I'd like to apologize to everyone and especially to Night.

I certainly didn't mean for that remark to be taken 'seriously' (as an insult), which is why I included the obligatory winkface (;)). I never meant to call Night stupid or dumb or anything like that. It's good to ask questions when you have a problem (a lot better than not asking or not getting help) and it's a sign of thinking, in the very least.

Again, I'd like to apologize for my comment. There's been a lot of times where I'll have a problem and the last thing I do is think to check on Google, so I'll spend an hour asking people and posting messages on forums, and then I'll go search Google and find my answer in two seconds.

Again, sorry. :(

I would never call someone dumb, or stupid. And I don't hate you. I barely know you.

I probly should have kept my mouth shut from the begining. But sometimes I hit the post button before my brain catches up with what I typed. I am sorry if I truely offended you Night.

It is simply because of lack of experience.

Same thing, if you lived in mexico all your life, and someone in alaska said you didnt know much about shoveling snow, its because of lack of knowledge (wtf would someone in mexico want to learn about shoveling snow?) as well as lack of experience (wtf are you going to do? get snow imported from france?)

me bieng "dumb"
EXCESSIVE NEVER SAID YOU WERE DUMB!!!!11!!one!!

I dont think it was right for you guys to call me dumb
/sigh

Oh, and how this flame war seemed to have started...
his coming from someone who couldn't figure out how to use google to solve port forwarding?

key words "USE GOOGLE"

you can use google to fix 98% of all your computer problems. If YOU have the problem, chances are YOUR NOT THE FIRST!!! and there are message boards the world over where people post their problems (like here!) so in a year some other person will be like wtfduder, how do I build a bridge? and they will GOOGLE it, and come here and learn from us!

READ THE WORDS ON THE PAGE, NOT JUST THE WORDS YOU WANT TO HEAR. in fact... READ IT TWICE!!!!11!!

Advice to Night:

I think what were getting at here is how you should go about finding help with computer related problems.

1. Instruction Manual to defective device (Port forwarding is right in there with my netgear router, would have saved you alot of time)
2. Google (Also easy info)
3. MSN (I'd be glad to help)
4. Forum
