Oh boy, one of these. ;)

We can't really tell you what system you should build...we can only describe the system we'd build if we were building.

Before I start, be sure to check out some online reviews before you buy anything. My favorite hardware sites are www.anandtech.com and www.tomshardware.com Both provide a wealth of information on hardware.

These opinion are only opinions, and I'm not doing a whole lot of research so take them for what you will (or won't).

If I was building myself a totally new system, I'd probably get something along the lines of...

$213 AMD Athlon64 3000 CPU (www.mwave.com)
$95 MSI K8T NEO-FSR MOBO (mwave)
$230 ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128meg (mwave)
$86 Creative Labs Audigy2 ZS (mwave)
$95 Enermax EG465P-VE (FCA) (www.coolerguys)
$110 Lian Li PC-60 (coolerguys)
$100 A beefy cpu fan, fan controller, and a handfull of 80mms. (coolerguys)
$195 Plextor 8x DVD-RW (mwave)
$100 Plextor 52x CD-RW (mwave)
$220 1 gig of Corsair DDR (mwave)

-------

~1500 including shipping, not including monitor, mouse, keyboard, operating system...

That'd be a pretty friggin kickass system.

sheesh Dave! Break the bank baby! ;)

I too would review, and I'm a little more conservative and would prolly go with some lower end stuff to wait and see how the newest stuff performs after being on the market.

Though, I can't really say what I'd get, cause I already have something I'm totally satisfied with! So you can see my system specs in the system specs thread and you should be able to match that for a little over $1000 w/monitor keyboard, mouse et all. :)

k u got that kind of where with all u don't costume unless your a master mod man and are going to build a PC inside a shoe or live house cat or something.

What I would do with that money is go to http://www.voodoopc.com and check out there PC's They have THE best costumer support, THE best computers, THE best looks etc...etc... Say for instance u buy a new ATI 13000 gigaplex Radeon eXtreme. Well u look inside only to see an amazing wire job and everything...hrm...what to do. Oh wait send it in for free I belive and they not only put the card in, redo the cable job, install the proper drivers, reconfigure your OS to run stable, benchmark it and test it, but they even clean the friggen thing for u! Thats service.

Anyway I'd really take a look at there pc's Very nice machines with amazing service!

but expect to use most of that money.

Hehe....I'm a big dreamer, what can I say? =)

Besides...he can play Far Cry on that system. *low jab*

I noticed that I forgot a hard drive, so add another $160 for a 200gb SATA drive. (newegg.com).

That's if he wants to play with all settings on high!

Gameplay is better when settings are lower...why else do you think I can stomp on you 1v1 thorns? *lower jab* ;)

Yea...pricewatch is a good tool and it can save you some money. But be sure to check out the company you buy from before you send them any money.

www.bbb.org and www.resellerratings.com are both good references to make sure the company is legit.

I can personally attest for mwave.com...although they haven't replied to my begging for them to sponsor us, I can still recommend them for super-fast service (ie, they almost always ship same day) and good customer support. And they're also neck and neck with the cheapest retailers you'll find, in my experience.

This LAN will have a really nice powersupply you could win, and a pre-order for Far Cry, which Dave, due to his low jab at my video card, is NOT eligible to win! bwuahahahhahah
