My brother tried to get the computer started and I told him it was not able to start up right now, he told her. She freaked out, got pissed that she has already payed 400$ and told me that it has to be fixed tonight even if we end up taking it to a shop AGAIN.

I can bring my athlon xp 1900 w/ half a gig ddr, radeon 9500LE 128 meg vid card for you to use, if you want to re-format the 120 gig hdd and re-install xp (ive got disk). If its a problem of not using the computer your welcome to mine:) unless your mom will be like "no lan at all jobeh!"

hey dogg, this is easy as pie:

1)remove old hard drive

2)insert second hard drive

3)install win2k or 98 on second hard drive

4)instert older HD
4b)back up/restore/whatever data from first hard drive (burn it or something)

5)problem solved

5b)as soon as you get the time, format first HD, reinstall the old OS and take out the second HD

if you need a second HD, or someone to take the time to do all this, i've got noth'n better to do tomarrow

and if the file table or partitions are messed up, there is free software to get around all that'

I don't think 98 will be able to read it if it is in NTFS. And you may have trouble retrieving info from a users My documents folder.

no it won't, the best way to recover an ntfs hd is linux as it can read ntfs easily. Even the stuff in the my documents folders that is supposed to only open to the user who owns it.
