View Full Version : Halo Tourneys

I'm new to the entire B.L.E. experience and have just started attending Western University. I used to play Halo at Gameclucks in Lynnwood. From exploring your sight, it seems like Halo isn't a top priority here. I was wondering how popular Halo is at the Lans and also if there will be any Halo tournyments soon. And when i say this, i don't mean Halo PC. I mean, full on Xbox system link, ish talkin halo. I challenge all 2v2 against me and my friend R-Dizzle. Halo consumes all.

Halo is as big as our xboxers make it. We'll have a Halo competition provided there are at least 11 xbox players and we'll give away something really cool - like Ninja Gaiden for example. We typically have 4 xbox's all linked together with 3 tvs and a projector screen for the wall. :)

And though I can't take that challenge, I know a couple guys that would for sure. :) I'll be sure to let them know!

Our biggest xbox game would have to be Soul Calibur II I think. Halo was really big at our first party, but SC2 came out after that and it's kinda taken the spotlight. But hey, storm the parties with tons of Halo players! Get everyone back into playing it again, that would be awesome!

Our next LAN has a tourny involving Halo, but it also involves two PC games...it's the first of many BLE's Triathalon tournament which has the players compete in 3 games, 2 PC and 1 xbox (Halo) and the best of the three wins the prize, which will be cool to say the least. :D So if by a small chance you play PC games at all, you should bring those too to enter it, cause it sounds like Halo is your arena so you've pretty much got a gaurantee there. :)

So yeah, bring lots of players, and come get Halo, prizes, food, and good games. :)

am trying toget 3 xboxers to come + myself, so, that'll be 4!
but don't think they can stay the entire time, if they do come :(

I might come... but I don't think I'd stay the whole time either. I don't have any of the PC games that you guys play. So I'd just be in it for some Xbox fun. Which of course I'd bring my TV and Xbox so we could system link Halo. 4v4, or maybe more if there is another Xbox?

there will be atleast mine + yours + one other xbox, and if we really need a 4th; its all about the connections...

Hmm, I think that's enough for me to come. Someone may need to rent a couple copies of Unreal Championship too. UC on Xbox is AWESOME! I'm playing it online all the time.

I am also new on the BLE scene as well, i saw your one of your fliers before and it said that halo for xbox was going to be played. I was unable to attend unfortunately. My friends and I are looking for some good competition. We are in High School, and have beat the pants off of everyone in our school and other schools. So i possibly, maybe, hopefully, there will be good competition at this event. It did seem like their were some pretty big fans. Well maybe i'll see ya guys on the 28th and you fell the swift 3 shots from my pistol and then on the ground you'll get a quick hump.:hump:

You should get some competition there. I've only played with one person I would say is better than myself, but even so, they're barely better than me. As it is, personally, I've recruited that player, and another player who is as good as myself, as well as my bro and my roommate who are just a rung or two down the ladder in skill... they'll all be there. So, the competition should be skilled enough to at least "annoy" you.

But try not to think of these people as competition. I'm looking forward to playing WITH these other players, not just against them. I'm hoping I make some Halo-playing friends in the B-Ham area. But I'm mostly concerned with jus having a good time.

Did you make it to the Halo Tourney a couple weeks ago(12th I think)?? If we aren't enough competition, we can always go team slayer, with odd teams. I had to do that one night with some friends. 1v4, team slayer to 50points. Needless to say, I won, 50 to 1, I was a little shocked. I couldn't believe I died! ;) I'd say I'm decent... I played with some friends last night for a couple hours and dominated.

I wasn't aware of the one on the 12th, i haven't been to any yet. If I go this weekend, it will be my first. I'm planning on bring my brother with me who is 21, i'm 17. Also, maybe if one of my friends wants to go or something i'll bring him. We are kind of hesitant to go out of our own environment for a few reasons. We haven't really found any good competition yet through all 3 high schools(I attend bellingham high). So we don't want get knocked down off of our high horse lol. And also, we kind of play with pride, we aren't big rocket whores and what not. I just jump the damn things anyway;) . But who knows, maybe we are the cheap playing bastards, we've played on xbconnect quite a bit and from that you learn to be power-up whores because if you don't get em, the other people will. For those of you that don't know xbconnect is a program that trick your xbox into thinking its doing system link, but you just link up your xbox with the computer, you can play halo online as well as other xbox games.

You would have fun at the Tourney. It was a fundraiser for a local guy who has some extremely rare cancer that attacks your eyes. Anyway, there was FIERCE competition. I thought I was pretty good, but thinking of playing safe I entered into the intermediate level(middle of 3), I got my @$$ handed to me! I couldn't believe it. These guys play Halo every day for hours!

I played on XBConnect for a little while, but got tired of the lag. And then I got UC, so I've been playing that on Live, and I'd say I'm pretty damn good at it. Dang I need to play more Halo. The change from UC to Halo is incredible. I feel like a snail in Halo. I'd say UC is about 5 times faster.

RawKus
02-22-2004, 07:41 PM
Yeah same with me, due to the lag, xbconnect is basically who can throw nades better. And my control config is on Jumpy, so i jump with left trigger and throw nades with A. Kind of a disadvantage for the "nade-age" in xbconnect. I remember when i first got on to xbconnect, we got our ass handed to us 50-2 in a 2 vs 2 at prisoner. I'd like to see hwo we stack up now. I mean this was way back, back when we'd just run straight at the guy firing. We woudln't strafe back and forth or dance at all. Not to mention, i couldn't snipe like a mofo back then either lol.

Ha ha... For some reason, XBC wouldn't work on my computer, so I used Gamespy Tunnel. It had some noticeable lag, which was very annoying, and basically ruled out sniping...

We played a guy who had a modded X-Box. He was killing us with one shot with a pistol, and he could jump nearly across Hang'em High. It was pretty awesome to see (except for the whole dying thing).

M4LFUNCT10N

That's the other reason why I stopped playing on XBC. All the cheaters. It's no fun! I would get killed instantly all the time. I'm really looking forward to some 8v8 CTF action! It should kick major ass!

RawKus
02-22-2004, 09:54 PM
The most ctf i've ever played in was like 4 vs 7, we just had the 4 best players there on 1 tv, vs 7 peeps on 2 tvs in the other room. They got worked because alot of them just sucked really bad, and they weren't organized at all. Plus we probably put respawn growth on. muahahahhahaaaaa. Also i think i've played in an 8 vs 8 in xbconnect for about 4 seconds before every one lagged out and the server dropped. it was exciting.

We did 5 on 6 CTF yesterday... it was great.

TheBANDIT
02-23-2004, 04:36 PM
I played a 5v5 ctf w/no respawn growth at blood gulch and it went on for an hour. I ended up with about 150 kills and 70 deaths and my friend ended up w/about the same. Needless to say the other team was a little frustrated by the end.

Dude, we always play CTF with instant respon and me and my homie always win against the newbs in our dorm up here at WWU. From reading i get the feeling that all of you are in high school and haven't really branched out in your competition. Take it from someone who knows, everyone at some point will believe that they are the best within their area. Be it bellingham school district or whatever. It's when you start playing nationally ranked players that you start earning respect in halo. (cough cough. played national champs last week). You guys are talking about XBC having lag. dudes, it lags for everyone and me and my friend still beat out people who are hosting. and whoreing the rocket and p ups are how you win. you can say what you want but when the carnage reports up, who wins? the real champs use them and know how to. Call me up anytime to get pwned. peace i'm out.

i was just wondering how good those attending the LAN are at halo? do you know any tricks about halo, this is always a good gauge on how good someone is. How much they know. and there are tricks to halo. plus has anyone heard of StK or TDT?

Stumanji
02-24-2004, 11:44 AM
Halo tricks like Ghost Jumping, the Maverick Maneuver, the Sidewinder Sneak, Sniper Tower in Blood Gulch, the Double Jump, the Soft Landing, Flag Tossing, the Chiron Hidden Room, the grenade/rocket assisted hiding spot in Rat Race, Teleporter re-routing, dropping to the bottom of Damnation, climbing the ramps in Blood Gulch with a Ghost, the Blood Gulch Rock-Jump, and things of that nature?

DiscoDave
02-24-2004, 12:05 PM
There's apparently a button you can push that will change from sticky bombs to normal grenades.

Does that count?

RawKus
02-24-2004, 10:34 PM
Wait, all you said is that you played the national champs. What was the score? Because I could just be good friends with the national champs because of things other than halo but they'd whoop my ass halo. Btw, was this on xbc?

Also about tricks, I really haven't explored the game to that extent, like we never play chiron cause it sucks. Most we do is like putting vehicles on top of maps and what not, but thats rarely, we just play, play play. But i've find 2 tricks, it takes me 3 shots to kill someone with a pistol, and 1 with a sniper rifle...AND about 7 with about a rocketlauncher.

Oh great in this 2 vs 2 tournament looks like we're going to get camped, and if we see that invisible guy, and able to knock down his overshield, we'll probably get hit by his rocket.

TheBANDIT
02-24-2004, 10:35 PM
sure whoreing rockets will win you the game, but will it win you respect? No. Rockets are crutches for noobs. Now if you spank me with a pistol from across the map at BG or something of that nature than I'm impressed. I'm looking forward to getting some good competition though regardless if its against a bunch of rocket whores, or people using tricks etc. :)

M4LFUNCT10N

yeah dude, the ogres are like the present day halo gods. And they have never been beaten 2v2. ever in a competition. yeah, those were some of the tricks i was talking about, but pretty much everyone knows those. I was talking about some other ones, but nm. and I actually did play the national champs at Gameclucks in Lynnwood. It was a Lan and not XBC. xbc can be gay cause of lag, plus there are alot of posers who say they are national contenders. and i do agree that the Rocket Launcher is a very easy weapon to kill with, but if the score reflects supremisy then whining about rocket whoreing is kind of irrelivant. And at this lan is anyone has a dispute, we can play rat race (no rocket Launcher). Or we can play a game with honors, which means no powerups and no rocket launcher. p.s. I'm not being hostile, but i bet no one at the Lan could beat me and R-Dizzle 2v2/2v3/2v4/ect. seeyou guys there. plus, let's try to keep the LAN all halo if possible, i know i'm a newb to BLE but just a request. see ya guys at the bottom of the carnage reports.

dude.... if you were truely good at halo you would know that whoring the rocket and powerups is key to winning and good strategy. Respect is earned by being 1st or having your team finish 1st in match after match after match. but hey, you can think whatever you want.

Speaking of Teams:
I'm hoping these will get mixed up now and then. I know that once you're on a winning team you like to stay there, but after a few games of one team winning everytime, then it'll probably mixed up.

The way I was thinking of this getting done was to have various 16 player FFA matches in between every third or fourth team game. They can be Slayer, KotH, Oddball, Race, whatever. Once the Carnage Report comes up, it's the odd-numbered ranks against the even numbered ranks in the next few team matches...

RawKus
02-25-2004, 04:24 PM
Well of course, rockets and power ups are the key to winning, but its kind of boring way to play. I don't find the rocketlauncher fun unless i'm trying to hit someone driving in BG from really far away. Its get kind of boring when you got people camping behind portals and everyone is just trying to make a mad dash for the rocket launcher, and then they count a minute and 40 seconds in their head to wait for the next rocket launcher to spawn. Its pretty ridiculous.

I am sure that at least ONE of the xbox's will be going with HALO all day. So there's nothing to fear there. It's more than likely that there will be more than one going with HALO all day. It's looking like there's going to be more than 4 xbox's so it's not going to be a problem having several games going at once.

But then in all seriousness, if you're always spanking everybody at the game, you're bound to get bored sometime and want to play something else? ;) Soul Calibur 2 is great fun...bwuahahahah

Stu:
Yeah, mixing up the teams frequently is a good thing, makes it more fun. However, if two people just don't want to be separated then it's prolly no use to hound them. I'm guessing that won't really be a problem, you'll more than likely have more than willing people to switch up the teams frequently. :rup:

Competitive talk and the like is good. But you need to be able to back it up as always. If you can that's great, but just don't be shrub about it. ;) If you can't then expect a return in kind. :)

you are right, I can think whatever I want. Of course whoring rockets and powerups is the key to winning and I know how to do it well. I'm at the point now though, were I don't do it because its kind of boring. Camping in a room invisible with a rocket launcer pointed at the door is not my style. If people do that against me I don't really care, I just choose not to play that way most of the time. If people camp rooms and whore everything against me thats fine but it doesn't make me think they are very good. I mean wow you shot a rocket in my general vicinity and it killed me. Thats all I meant by the whole whoring rockets/powerups thing. Personally I'm more impressed with getting sniped in the head when I'm on the move, or something with a lot more finesse than shooting the ground below someone with a rocket. I am very aware that the best in the world use anything they can to their advantage but I'm not saying I'm the best in the world or that I'll walk over anyone at this LAN either.

Trash Talk:
My philosophy has always been: If you're really good, you don't need to tell anyone. Let your actions do the talking.

I'm always annoyed by the trash talkers... but the good news is everytime I kill a trash-talker, I feel I've brought justice to the world. :hump:

I mostly just like traditional games like TS and CTF. But i do enjoy some fun sometimes. The map i like for TS are basically everything but boarding action, chiron, sindwinder (takes too long in TS) and damnation we play sometimes but i don't really like it much. For CTF i like blood gulch the best, and hang em high is fun for that too. I usually don't have all vehicles. Having Warthogs only seems to be the best way to do it.

Your Halo enjoyment sounds extremely limited. You must embrace the multitude of options this game allows. I don't see myself trying to win Halo 50k or anything, so I try to mix up the variety of gameplay, instead of switching between CTF and TS...

There are a crazy amount of games you can come up with in Halo, and I like to mix'em up, all in the name of fun...

I don't mind playing different types of games. Sometimes assault CTF is fun, or rocket launcher ctf at hang em high, oddball is ok, boxing matches, 400%health, anything really. But when it comes down to it I like to play TS and CTF for the most part but like to play crazier games once that gets boring. I'm 21 by the way. I really hate alien weapons though, thats my one thing.

Halo Is Supposed to be FUN (http://carnage.bungie.org/haloforum/halo.forum.pl?read=387997)

An article written by a person who competed at the Major League Gaming tournament in Philly. Him and his three friends, who didn't seriously expect to win, were encountered by fanatics who spawn-camped and sniper-camped during CTF games, guys who used hand-signals, and people who practiced up to 8 hours a day... Not to mention people who got angry that they were using "TV Space" to play Blood Gulch CTF...

Wow. Have fun now and then kids.

I'm not opposed to more creative games its just that I have fun playing simple slayer games/CTF with the current group of guys/girl I've been playing with lately. I need to figure out a way how to play to win and still have fun, because spawn camping etc isn't that fun unless of course you have someone on the other team who you don't like or something.:)

I have a question about payment stuff. This is from the EVENTS page on this site. "Cost for xbox players is $10.00 in advance and $10.00 at the door." Does this mean that for xbox players the total is 20.00 or does it cost 10.00 whether you pay before hand or at the door?

Hrmm..I'll have to fix that...it SHOULD read OR instead of that AND. M4L is right. It's $10 whether or not you prepay. But prepaying secures your spot, something that will be a little more important next month. :)
