thermal pad vs the oil

oks, so i's goes to the's amd web site, and they talk about only using a thermal pad in production use, but all i got is thermal oil... so where do i go to get said pad?

you can get the pad at any computer suply shop.

as far as wich to use, the pad is cleaner but some think thermal grease is more efficent. as far as oil is concerned, is that what it says on the package? I ask because I wouldn't think oil would stay put well enough to be used as a thermal conductor.

its actually more commonly refered to as thermal paste. Thermal oil will get you weird looks and possibly snickers at most puter stores :)

but anyway the thermal pads don't work as well because they are a set size. They are little squares that are a certain thickness (too thick), and they are very dense which just helps hold the heat not transfer it. In actuallity the whole reason for thermal compounds is to simply fill minute wholes or imperfections in the surfaces. So with thermal paste you can put a small dab on, and smear it so you can just barely make out the lettering on your cpu/gpu/north bridge etc... This gives you a perfect fit so theres not going to be air pockets to trap heat in.

just douse your cpu with water every once in a while...that'l cool it down! :D

Put an icecube on top of it, The cpu will be hot enough that the water wont melt, it will steam away and no harmfull drippings on the mobo =)

toothpaste also works for about a few days till it dries out, but the best thermal compound I've heard is water, followed by a tie with vegimite and minty fresh toothpaste.

I use a liquid cooling system, only instead of water, I use napalm. Works like a charm.
